The Wrestleline Report-Thursday

It's being reported-YET AGAIN-that Wrestling Society X has been cancelled. As we've all learned from the first time this was reported, take this with a grain of salt until it's 100% confirmed. If it is though, Big Vision Entertainment retained the rights to the show, so they can try to market it to another network, or release it on dvd if they so wish.

Wrestling Society X on Tuesday night got a 0.6 cable rating.

ECW on Sci Fi got a 1.6 cable rating.

Although Christopher Daniels did not perform at the Impact tapings on Monday, he was backstage.

Basically all of the big stars on the TNA roster will be involved with the TNA fanfest for the Lockdown ppv.

TNA has announced the following new DVD releases for 2007. The exact release date will be announced next week.

“Click, Doomsday: The Best Of Abyss”
“Instant Classic: The Best Of Christian Cage”
“Best Of The Bloodiest Brawls, Volume 2”
“Kevin Nash And Alex Shelley Present: The Best Of Paparazzi Productions”

TNA will be releasing Best of the Tag Teams Vol. 1 on March 13.

For the week of February 19–25, John Cena's "The Marine" slipped from #3 to #6 in national DVD rentals, according to Box Office Mojo.

TNA Impact Spoilers:

Wrestling Society X Results

Wrestling Society X Results - 2/27/07 (Episode #4)
Commentators: Kris Kloss & Bret Ernst
Special Guest Commentary: Clipse
Report By: Adam Martin of WrestleView.com

- The animated intro for Wrestling Society X hits.

- Clipse performs for the crowd in attendance.

- Matt Sydal w/ Lizzy Valentine defeated Scorpio Sky. Before the match started, Scorpio Sky brought an 8x10 autographed picture of himself to give to Lizzy. Lizzy gave him the cheesy "talk to the hand" move and Sydal went after Sky right away. Lots of back and forth action between these guys, with Sky hitting an impressive leap over the top rope to take out Sydal on the outside and landing on his feet. Sydal also hit a big standing moonsault with lots of height. The finish saw Sky go up on the top rope and Sydal cut him off. Sydal then hit a big standing belly-to-belly moonsault off the top to get the pinfall. After the match, Sydal holds Sky down and Lizzy writes "H8R" (hater) on Sky's back. Sydal continues to attack Sky when he attempts a comeback.

- We see Ruckus and Babi Sylmm backstage (who come off as the WSX's version of Cryme Tyme). Ruckus is looking for his ladder and Sylmm reveals a "blinged out" ladder.

- Keepin' It Gangsta (Ruckus & Babi Sylmm) come out to the WSX arena and issue an open challenge to any tag team in Wrestling Society X. That 70's Team (Joey Ryan & Disco Machine) then come out to accept the challenge.

- That 70's Team (Joey Ryan & Disco Machine) defeated Keepin' It Gangsta (Ruckus & Babi Sylmm). Before the match started, Joey Ryan and Disco Machine poured oil all over their chests. The crowd loved it. Ruckus was very impressive in this match, hitting tons of great high spots on That 70's Team. Ruckus works very quick in the ring, similar to TNA's Ron "The Truth" Killings. At one point in the match, Sylmm pulled down Ryan's trunks to reveal a black thong. Clipse, who were on commentary, did not enjoy this part of the match. The finish saw Ryan get put in the tree of woe in the corner and Ruckus put the disco ball in his face. Ruckus then leaped off the ladder and Sylmm and connected with a big dropkick to the face smashing the disco ball. Sylmm then pinned Ryan to get the win.

- A promo introducing Arik Cannon aired. Cannon beat up some guy that was his friend and he added that if he would do this to his friends, then you wouldn't believe what he would do to his opponents. Wasn't a very strong promo and Cannon has a very "indy" look to him.

- El Hombre Blanco Enmascarado vs. The Human Tornado never took place. Fabian Kaelin introduced El Hombre, who was already in the ring. When Kaelin introduced Human Tornado twice and he never came out, we see a shot backstage of Tornado knocked out. 6-Pac then hit the ring and took the mic from Kaelin. He demanded that Vampiro come out to the ring. WSX Champion Vampiro appeared and hit the ring. Vampiro and 6-Pac stared each other down when Ricky Banderas (who may go under a new name) hit the ring and attacked Vampiro. Banderas threw Vampiro out of the ring and into the ring barricade. We then see Banderas throw Vampiro into the side of the ring and then shoot bright light into the face of Vampiro. This was originally shot as a fireball to the face, but MTV & Big Vision pulled out the special effects on this one and made it almost look sci-fi like with the attack. Banderas then stood over Vampiro as the WSX announcers wondered who he was. The special effects didn't stop there as they did a white glowing effect with Banderas' eyes to make him look even more intimidating.

ECW on Sci Fi Preview

A most unlikely individual - Donald Trump - took WrestleMania 23 to the extreme when he selected Bobby Lashley as his representative in the Battle of the Billionaires. Mr. McMahon cannot be too happy about this news and neither can the Chairman's choice, the Samoan Bulldozer, especially after the brawl between Lashley and Umaga on Raw that took nearly two dozen security guards, referees and officials to break up.

In fact, Mr. McMahon was so upset that he left Raw, telling Jonathan Coachman that he was heading to San Jose to teach Lashley a lesson on his own turf, ECW on Sci Fi. He also promised to make Lashley's life "a living hell." What does the Chairman have in store for the ECW World Champion? Has "The Donald" have found the one competitor that can keep Trump's infamous mane unshaved?

Lashley has his hands full, as he will also meet Hardcore Holly in a Steel Cage Match for the ECW World Title. Anything can happen when these two Extremists do battle in a steel cage. Who will prevail as ECW World Champion when the night is over?

Last week, the ECW Originals won their latest battle with the New Breed when Rob Van Dam pinned Kevin Thorn after a Five-Star Frog Splash. But the war between the two sides seems far from over. What will be the next chapter in this battle for supremacy in the Land of the Extreme?

CM Punk has said he thrives on competition, and now he has won the right to compete on the grandest stage of them all in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match at WrestleMania 23. With his victory over Raw's Johnny Nitro on ECW on Sci Fi, he will now represent ECW at WrestleMania. How will the other Extremists react to the straightedge young star’s upcoming debut at sports-entertainment's greatest event?

Find out Tuesday night on ECW on Sci Fi at 10/9 CT.

The Wrestleline Report-Monday

WWE RAW Preview:

Donald Trump will choose his representative for Wrestlemania

WWE Tag Team Champions John Cena & HBK will take on Rated RKO

There will be another Money in the Bank qualifying matchup

Melina will address her frustrations with Ashley Massaro

Wrestlemania notes:

There will be eight participants in this year's Money in the Bank matchup

The direction of Batista v. Undertaker has changed. Batista was slated to end 'Taker's winning streak, but now it looks as though the dead man will prevail.

The way things look right now, Mick Foley is not slated to be a part of Wrestlemania.

The direction of WWE ppv's are going to be changed up a bit starting this year. As you may have noticed at the No Way Out ppv, there were wrestlers from different brands on the one ppv, and that is going to be more of a common thing to help out the "B" shows.

WWE Hall of Fame update:

Jim Ross and Jerry "The King" Lawler are confirmed for induction this year.

Larry Hennig, the father of "Mr. Perfect," will induct his son Curt Hennig.

The Wild Samoans (Afa and Sika) were asked to be in the hall of fame a few weeks back, as previously reported, and did agree.

Ric Flair is the leading candidate to be the headling act for the 2008 hall of fame.

Not sure what happened to The Sheik talk, a fixture in Detroit for years. Vince McMahon has never liked The Sheik, and nephew Sabu is basically in the WWE dog house, so that may doom his fate.

TNA News:

Bill Banks recently confirmed in his online column that TNA will be having the June 17th Slammiversary ppv outside of Orlando. Banks also stated that TNA will be having a live event in Mississippi in upcoming months.

May's Sacrifice ppv will be held on the 13th

A brand new autograph special will be up for sale at Shoptna.com during the first week of March. The package which will be limited to only 300 will include among other items an autographed copy of the soon to be released Best of AJ Styles Volume 2 DVD.

New entrance themes have been added to music player on the roster page of TNAwrestling.com.

TNA will be featured during the entire month of March on maximonline.com

10-Falls with Indiana Independent Wrestler Travis Southern

10-Falls

featuring Indiana Independent Wrestling Star

Travis Southern

1) How long have you been in the business and where do you receive your wrestling training?

TS: I have been wrestling since 2001. I was trained by "Mean" Mike Jezznowski, who was trained by Dick the Bruiser, Jr.

2) What organizations have you worked for and which ones are you currently associated with?

TS: I started with NAPW and have worked for WSCW, WCWO, CWA, CIW-Indy, EFW, IWA and WWA (Bruiser Wrestling). I currently work for Rising Sun Wrestling, Mayhem Pro Wrestling, And World Championship Wrestling of America.

3) What titles have you held during your wrestling career?

TS: My first title I held was when I started out with WSCW. I won the Tag Team Title along with the guy I started training with, Kid Wikkid. Since then, I have held titles in RSW (Tag Team and Heavyweight), MPW(Tag Team, United States, and currently hold the Heavyweight Title), IWA (Junior Heavyweight) and WCWA (Tag Team, United States, and currently hold the Heavyweight Title).

4) Which match over your career was your favorite and why?

TS: Well, working the WCWA Legends show and having WWF Diva Sunny as my manager was really great, and any match I work against Big Daddy Dean or the Whiteboy are really good. But the match that I liked the best was the match I had with High Voltage for the MPW Heavyweight Title. We had wrestled many times before building up to this match. There happened to be a lot of drama between the promoter and Voltage leading up to the show, and I was afraid it would carry over into the match. It didn't, and we put on a hell of a match. Having Voltage tell me after the show that if he had to lose to anyone, he was glad it was to me. Hearing that made me realize I did have some talent. lol

5) What is the toughest thing about being a professional wrestler?

TS: Having a family. When I started wrestling, I did it to get over a divorce I was going thru. My daughters have really liked going to the shows with me. But now they are getting older, and they have stuff of their own going on, like sports and school stuff. It gets harder and harder to have talented children and try to wrestle as much as I did in the past. lol

6) Any good road stories that you can pass along (keep it clean LOL)?

TS: Pulling pranks on the new guys are always fun things to do. We once did the classic prank of putting Icy-Hot in a guys trunks before his match, by the time he got done with his match, he made a beeline to the bathroom to try and get "cooled down", so to speak.
Also, listening to Kid Italy do "Toll Booth Willy" by Adam Sandler verbateum is really funny too.

7) Are there things that you would like to achieve during your pro wrestling career? Short term and long term goals?

TS: I've done most of the things that I thought about doing when I first started. I have won some titles, main evented shows, wrestled on TV, had Sunny as a manager. I think the only thing that I haven't done is have a match that somehow has Mick Foley involved. Foley was one of the few guys that got me really into the whole asspect of wrestling, stuff like promos and in- ring skills. I knew I would never be a big, power guy, or a high flyer, but I knew I could be a good bumper and just make sure I tell a good story while in the ring.

8) Have you received any important advice from other more famous names in the pro wrestling business and what was that?

TS: The best thing that anyone ever told me was to be good to the guys you see going up the ladder, cause they are the same guys you'll see on the way down. It sounds trite, but its true. There are guys I have seen not follow this saying, and its sad to see how other wrestlers treat these guys now that they have kinda "burnt their bridges", so to speak. To anyone reading this, treat people like you would like to be treated. It's the same in life, like it is in wrestling.

9) What is the BEST thing and the WORST thing about being a professional wrestler, maybe something that you didn't realize would be that way when you started?

TS: The best thing has to be all the friends that I have gotten to meet because of wrestling. "Mean" Mike Jezznowski, Big Daddy Dean, Troy Miller, Whiteboy, Justin Dean, Tommy Drastic, Jason Automatic, JyNx, Don and Amanda Reeder, Gerric Walker, Hank Calhoun. These people mean a lot to me. I am happy anytime that I get to be on a show with any of these guys.
The worst has to be some of the promoters that I've had to deal with. Some have told you one thing than turn around and do the exact opposite of what I had been told. Money issues are another thing that really gets me. Being told I was going to paid one price, than tells me later they could not pay me what was agreed upon. The bad thing is, there are a lot of promoters out there that are like that.

10) If you had to tell someone what it's like being a professional wrestler, what are the three most important things you would tell them?

TS: First thing, get trained by professionals. OVW, HWA, and even guys like Lance Storm, Truth Martini, and Scott D'Amore are a few good places and people to get trained by.
Second thing, Wrestling is not "fake", its choragraphed. There are things that do hurt and there is always a chance I might get injured.
Third thing, no, I have never or will never wrestle for the WWE or TNA. This is a hobby for me. There are a handful of guys that I know in this area that have the talent to even THINK about going any higher, but it would take a great deal of luck for them to get noticed. Hopefully, some of them will and I can say I knew them when.

It appears former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar is set to make his MMA debut for for K-1's offshoot "Heroes" on May 19 in Las Vegas.

Christopher Daniels is set to get a new gimmick here soon, and won't be doing any wrestling until he unveils his new gimmick.

Orlando Jordan was visiting at the last TNA ppv backstage and looking for work. His name has come up in the past, but as of now he isn't being considered seriously.

Brother Ray recently asked Jeff Jarrett if he could turn heel, but that idea was turned down.

Vince Russo is said to be very frustrated with TNA tv right now. He recently said in front of TNA management Jeff Jarret, Dixie Carter and some Spike TV rep's after watching an episode of Impact, that he couldn't tell you one thing he just saw. He's frustrated with how managment expects him to fit so many different things into each episode, as alot of the wrestlers are paid on a per-tv appearance basis.

TNA has been very pleased with the ticket sales for the April Lockdown PPV for St. Louis, MO. This area happens to draw some of the highest ratings for TNA.

TNA has made some major changes to their Rosters. Siamond Diamond, David Young, and Elix Skipper have all been removed from the TNA Roster.

TNA stars removed:
Siamond DIamond
David Young
Elix Skipper
Jackie
Norman Smiley

TNA stars moved to the side:
So Cal Val
Jim Cornette

Smackdown Spoilers

Batista opened the show cutting a promo on the Undertaker explaining
what he did and why at No Way Out.

There was a 6 Man Tag... Deuce & Domino & Mercury beat Matt Hardy,
Kendrick & London

Chavo Guerrero beat Scotty 2 Hotty. Worm got a big pop, hadn't seen
it a while.

They ran the Mr. Perfect Hall of Fame video, it got a good ovation
from the crowd.

Booker T. beat Kane in the Money in the Bank Qualifying Match. Match
was pinfalls count anywhere. Great Kahali came out and interfered
throwing Kane thru a barrier around ringside and Booker pinned him.

Finlay & Little Bastard beat Boogeyman & Mini Boogeyman. Funny
entertaining match.

They ran a promo saying Undertaker will speak next week.

Rey Misterio came out to a huge pop and updated us on his status,
saying he's getting better, and is recovering ahead of schedule.

Mr. McMahon and 20 security guards showed up to spoil the fun. He
made fun of Rey's size and asked him who he though would win the
battle of the billionaires. Rey called Vince a loser. Then he brought
out Umaga, and gave Rey a chance to change his answer. And then
McMahon nailed him before Umaga destroyed him in the middle of the
ring. Pretty good segment. I believe the show ended there.

Batista beat Mr. Kennedy to retain the World Title. As he begun to
celebrate, the lights went out, you heard a gong, lights on and the
Undertaker is in the ring. He chokeslamed Batista and then left. Big
pop for the Undertaker.

The Wrestleline Report-Wednesday

ECW on Sci Fi Results:

RVD w/ ECW Originals d. Kevin Thorn w/ ECW New Breed

CM Punk d. Johnny Nitro w/ Melina in a Wrestlemania Money in the Bank qualifier matchup

La Resistance d. Los Luchas

Bobby Lashley d. Mr. Kennedy & Hardcore Holly to retain the ECW Title

On E! News, it was given away that Donald Trump's representative for Wrestlemania will be Bobby Lashley, and that Stone Cold Steve Austin will be the special guest referee. On an interesting side note, Raw lost about 670,000 viewers about two weeks ago with the Lashley v. Kenny Dykstra match.

Melina v. Ashley is the planned Women's Title matchup for Wrestlemania.

In case some of you are wondering who the new announcer was on Raw Monday night, his name is Max Bretos, and was just hired a few weeks ago. He's worked for the Fox Soccer Channel, and has always been a big wrestling fan, and would actually make quite a few wrestling references in his announcing on Fox Soccer Channel. He is said to be very aware of the product, professional, and all of the wrestlers seem to like him so far.

There is some talk of WWE stars doing some guest appearances on USA Network's "Psych".

For those interested, the theme for WWE 24/7 in April is "Managerial Mayhem".

The Wrestleline Report-Tuesday

Mike "Awesome" Alfonso 1965-2007

It's being reported that former ECW World Heavyweight Champion Mike Awesome was found dead on Saturday. The former WWE, WCW and ECW superstar can be remembered, among other things, for still being the ECW Champion when he jumped ship to WCW. The title match between Awesome and then WWE superstar Tazz where the title changed hands took place here in Indianapolis at the Murat Shrine. Mike was working in Tampa as a realtor with Coldwell Banker at the time of his death. Right now, unfortunately, it looks like suicide as he was found hanging in his house by friends on Saturday night. This makes two ECW Champions that have left us already this year, and that is two too many. My thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of Mike Alfonso, and hopefully everyone will remember and honor his contributions to the sport of pro wrestling, and not the way that he left us.

Raw saw Umaga not only be chosen to represent Vince McMahon in the hair v. hair match at Wrestlemania, but also become the new Intercontinental Champion! Melina also defeated Mickie James to become the new Women's Champion, Edge d. RVD in a Money in the Bank qualifier and "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig was announced as an inductee for the WWE Hall of Fame this year.

On ECW on Sci Fi tonight-Bobby Lashley will defend the ECW Title against Mr. Kennedy & Hardcore Holly. Also on the show, CM Punk will take on Johnny Nitro in a Wrestlemania Money in the Bank qualifier.

Shannon Moore has been moved from ECW to Smackdown

Vito will most likely be doing some type of Muay Thai gimmick with Japanese writing on his trunks, wearing a headband and no shoes whenever he comes back.

Mexican promotion CMLL is pressuring Mistico not to tryout for WWE, and is very upset at the thought of him leaving for the company.

Former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar has been in talks as of late with UFC. He was been training for quite some time to fight for Japan's K-1 MMA promotion, though no fights have been announced as of yet.

Brian Kendrick & Paul London d. Deuce & Domino w/ Cherry to retain the Tag Team Titles

Mr. Kennedy d. ECW Champ Bobby Lashley via dq when Lashley used a chair on Kennedy

HBK & John Cena d. Undertaker & Batista

There are rumors that Stone Cold Steve Austin was backstage at the No Way Out ppv. He is supposed to be getting involved on tv here soon leading up to Wrestlemania to help plug the release of The Condemned.

Torrie Wilson is rumored to be dating former Spirit Squad member Mitch-real name Nick Mitchell

2006 Diva Search contestant JT Tinney is currently doing some modeling for Victoria's Secret

Rhino did an interview recently stating that he wants to wrestle for 10 more years before retiring. He also admitted that he still has the real ECW title, and that the one he burned was just a replica belt.

BG James-much like his tag partner Kip James-has stated recently that if he could get out of his TNA deal that he would jump to WWE in a heartbeat. My God people are wishy washy.

Indy Wrestle Line--2/18 Report

Indy Wrestle Line Independent Update
2/18/2007
317-592-9401 option #1
http://www.themidwestinsider.com

----------------

Hello everyone and welcome to the Indy Wrestle Line for your Sunday report from around the midwest. I am your weekend warrior Randy Klemme.

Alot of shows again this weekend around the midwest and we have some of those results on the way but first I want to touch on the Wrestling Society X situation and all of the stories circulating as to whether WSX has been cancelled or not.

I had a chance yesterday to message with Fabian Kaelin, the ring announcer for WSX who explained to me what was going on with the show. It is a fact that the show will not be airing this Tuesday night, BUT will return to it's time slot on Tuesday, February 27th at 10:30pm. Fabian said a fireball spot in a match in episode 4 was originally approved by Standard and Practices at MTV/Viacom but was later told it was too much to air. He added with the recent layoffs in various departments at Viacom it couldn't be worked out or I guess edited in time to air the show. I asked him about the low ratings and if that also had anything to do with it and Fabian told me that it's not an issue with the WSX show's ratings rather it's an issue with the whole MTV lineup. The whole show lineup had a bad rating week with WSX doing less than most. He added MTV can only blame that on themselves as they did a lackluster job of promoting the shows. Fabian says with the combination of those 3-issues (the fireball, the layoffs and low ratings last week), everything is just going slow. The show is NOT cancelled and will be back a week from Tuesday.

I want to thank Fabian Kaelin for the answers to my questions, trying to get to the bottom of the WSX situation....

Foley-WM, Boogeyman in Training, Lita/Myspace

There are talks of Mick Foley taking on Umaga at Wrestlemania and reprising his "Cactus Jack" role.

The reason WWE has this Boogeyman-Finlay feud going on is hopes that Finlay can help Boogeyman learn how to work better.

Jillian Hogan?

Jillian Hall doing the airhead singing gimmick is, in fact, a shot at Hulk Hogan and his daughter Brooke. Vince McMahon thinks that Jillian looks just like Brooke, although others don't really see it. Whatever the case may be, Jillian's "singing" is intended to be a spoof on Brooke Hogan by Vince McMahon.

TNA an option for Big Show?

As reported earlier, Big Show’s contract will be expiring at the end of this month. WWE offered him a renewal similar to what he has previously had ($1 million a year downside), but Show turned down the offer because he is burned out and hurting physically.

With Big Show declining the option to renew his contract, WWE has offered him a substantial amount of money to retain his intellectual property rights, which would keep him from wrestling anywhere else including TNA. Show also turned down this option.

As of right now, TNA is not considered a likely option, but is an option in the future for him.

Indy Wrestle Line--2/17 Report

Indy Wrestle Line Independent Update
2/17/2007
317-592-9401 option #1
http://www.themidwestinsider.com

----------------

Hello everyone and welcome to the Indy Wrestle Line for your Saturday, INDEPENDENT wrestling update from around the midwest. I am your weekend warrior Randy Klemme.

Well weather permitting around the midwest there are a number of shows, so if you get an opportunity tonight or this weekend get out and support independent professional wrestling.

First we start off with word about Wrestling Society X. Word from MTV is that there will be a meeting in the coming week to discuss WSX. The show will not air next Tuesday due primarily to it's very low rating this past week and decline over the first three weeks of the show. It is scheduled to return in two weeks HOWEVER in my opinion don't count on it. Here is my take on the ratings game with WSX and MTV. The ratings are based on the one time slot of Tuesdays at 10:30pm, BUT MTV chose to repeat the episodes 15-20 times at various time slots throughout the week which dilutes the ratings for the time slot being gauged on Tuesday nights. Why watch it on Tuesday at 10:30pm when you could watch the same show on Thursday at 8:30pm or at 3:30 on Saturday afternoon? I feel MTV shot itself in the foot by showing WSX way too much. TV executives only look at the bottem line and that is ratings and that is what they make their programming decisions on.

As for the low ratings for TNA in their special 2-hour show this past Monday night....I think TNA officials really missed the opportunity and should have done an ACTUAL full 2-hour regular show instead of doing the re-cap matches like they did. Ratings would have been much higher and would have given them a better gauge as to where they are with public perception. TNA has been around long enough to have the public know who their wrestlers are.

I would appreciate knowing what you think about this past weeks decisions for WSX and TNA. You can leave them after this report or drop me a message on MySpace and I'll give you my web address here shortly...

The Wrestleline Report-Friday

R.I.P. Wrestling Society X
I wish I had a clever eulogy, but I don't. After only THREE episodes on MTV, the dream is over for Wrestling Society X-ites. This is reminiscent of the also short lived WXO-which I'm still not sure what the initials were for that. This comes off of the capital B-R-utal 0.5 cable rating they got on Tuesday night. Appropriately enough, the name of the show taking WSX's place on Tuesday nights is called "Scarred".

On a lighter note, WWE has broken a record in already making over $5 million in ticket sales ALONE for Wrestlemania 23! WWE sent out a press release yesterday over the joyous occasion.

Billboard's Top 10 Video Sales - Recreational Sports DVD:

1. WWE: ECW: Extreme Rules (debuts at #1)
2. Chicago Bears: The Super Bowl Shuffle
3. WWE: Armageddon 2006 (last week's #1)
4. UFC 60: Matt Hughes Vs Royce Gracie
5. UFC 59: Reality Check
6. TNA: Bound For Glory 2006
7. WWE: Survivor Series 2006
8. 2001 FedEx Orange Bowl National Championship
9. NFL: Chicago Bears - The Complete History
10. WWE: Holiday Tribute To The Troops

Former Diva Search Runner-Up, Leyla Milani, will be hosting her own 30-second promo for Monday Night RAW on the USA Network. The promo will be titled, RAW RANNATION and it will air for the entire year.

This week in DVD rentals, John Cena’s movie, “The Marine” took second place.

Tickets for April's Lockdown PPV go on sale today at 10am central time at the Family Arena box office in St. Louis and on Metrotix.com. Eric Young, Christy Hemme and Christian Cage will be on hand at the box office to greet and sign autographs for those buying tickets.

RVD/WWE Status Update

The Pro Wrestling Torch is reporting that Rob Van Dam's contract with World Wrestling Entertainment will be expiring at the end of this summer. The six month mark came last week where he had to indicate to the company if he wanted the contract to automatically renew. According to sources, RVD opted to stop the auto-rollover, meaning he has to renegotiate his deal and renew or else he will become a free agent starting in September of 2007.

In regard to details of his current deal with WWE, he was estimated as being under a downside guarantee of around $400,000 a year. He earned that much while sitting out with an injury (which was said to be around $7,500 per week). When he returned from injury, he changed his payment method based on the shows he worked thinking he would earn more per week that way. Instead, a wide range of payments followed. With ECW not drawing well by itself for House Show and PPV events, RVD's weekly paychecks saw a dramatic decrease. In the end however, it didn't really matter since at the end of the contract year he will end up receiving a "make-good" check for however short his combined weekly pay was.

It should be noted that RVD is currently running the risk of WWE not offering him a downside guarantee as high as they had previously agreed on by not letting his contract roll over. One main reason he is considering leaving WWE right now, which isn't big news for those who have followed the story, is that he is unhappy with the current direction of ECW and how it has been portrayed creatively. While sources close to RVD say he values money, he also takes pride in his work and hasn't felt good about it lately. This is why it is very possible he could accept less money to jump to TNA and work fewer dates. With top stars such as Sting earning around $500,000 per year in TNA, it is believed that TNA could offer RVD a deal for around $250,000. While that is a significant decrease from what he was earning in WWE, in turn he would work fewer dates per month and have more creative satisfaction with his role. The only downside would be burning a bridge with WWE should he want to return in the future.

At 37 years old, sources close to Rob Van Dam say he may do one of three things: allow his deal with WWE to expire and jump to TNA, re-sign with WWE because the money is better or allow WWE to retain his intellectual property rights and sit on that for a year or two before making a decision about his wrestling career.

Wrestling Society X Results-2/13

Wrestling Society X Results - 2/13/07 (Episode #3)
Commentators: Kris Kloss & Bret Ernst
Special Guest Commentary: Sparta
Report by: Adam Martin of WrestleView.com

- The animated intro for Wrestling Society X hits.

- We then go to a short musical performance by Sparta.

- Kris Kloss & Bret Ernst then welcome us to the show and view highlights from last week featuring Vampiro vs. 6-Pac to crown the first ever WSX Champion, which Vampiro won after giving 6-Pac a tombstone piledriver through a coffin at ringside.

- We then go to a vignette featuring Vampiro. He has laying down against a wall with the WSX on his lap. Vampiro makes a reference that wrestling is in his blood and now the WSX Title is in his blood. Had a very "Raven" promo feel to it, except the usage of big words.

- The Filth & The Fury (Teddy Hart & "M-Dogg 20" Matt Cross") defeated The Trailer Park Boyz (Nate Webb & Josh "Jug" Raymond w/ "White Trash" Johnny Webb). Lots of fast paced tag team action in this match, which is perfect for viewers with a short attention span (generally the audience these guys are going after). Say what you want about Teddy Hart's attitude problems, but the guy is an amazing athlete and put on a wide display of impressive moves. Matt Cross was equally impressive, with Hart & Cross getting in a majority of the offense early on against The Trailer Park Boyz. Hart hit a big moonsault from the ropes to the outside and then followed that up with an awesome full-body cradle DDT. This is where things got a little corny. Hart pulled some live electric wire from an area of the set and electrocuted Nate Webb with it. Hart then poured water all over Webb, put him on a table, climbed up a set of stairs and then did a big flip dive onto Webb crashing through the tables. In the ring, Cross hit a big shooting star leg drop on Raymond to get the pinfall.

- A promo was shown between Los Ponchos Guapos (Aaron Aguilera & Kaos).

- Jack Evans defeated El Hombre Blanco Enmascarado. The announcers and the guest commentators from the band Sparta had fun trying to figure out what El Hombre's name meant in english, which roughly means a white guy in a mask. He was also dubbed as being from "way above the north border." Hey, at least WSX has some entertaining characters that make you think and laugh. Evans got a good reaction from the crowd and started to break dance when El Hombre took the advantage by hitting him with a dropkick. El Hombre followed that up with a modified fishermans suplex. The finish saw Evans catch El Hombre with a big elbow and Evans followed that up with his famous 630 Splash to get the pinfall.

- A vignette aired profiling WSX's newest character: Matt Classic (aka Colt Cabana of ROH fame). Basically, he is playing a throwback old school wrestler character who only does very basic moves. It was very entertaining and looks promising once he debuts on TV.

- A preview for WSXtra on WSX.MTV.COM is shown.

- Luke Hawx & Alkatrazz defeated Los Ponchos Guapos (Aaron Aguilera & Kaos) in a TLC Match (Tables, Ladders & Cervezas). Kaos was able to get in some pretty impressive moves during the match including the Kaos Driver (a firemans carry into a modified cradle piledriver) and a modified back rack piledriver. Kaos & Aguilera have some miscommunication issues during the match, which eventually leads to Kaos getting sent face first through the Cervezas that Aguilera brought into the ring. The finish saw Alkatrazz give Kaos a big powerbomb through a table and then get the pinfall shortly afterwards for the win.

- A video aired of what will be coming next week, which will see the return of an angry 6-Pac after losing to Vampiro in the WSX Title Match.

The Wrestleline Report-Wednesday

I'd like to send my thoughts and prayers out to the friends and family of Bob Luce. Luce was the Chicago promoter for Dick the Bruiser. He passed away last Thursday at the age of 78 and passed away on eve of his 79th bday.

ECW on Sci Fi Results:

1) ECW Champ Bobby Lashley d. Hardcore Holly in an Extreme Rules matchup to retain the ECW Championship

2) Kevin Thorn w/ Ariel & The Alpha Male d. Tommy Dreamer & The Sandman

3) CM Punk d. Mike "Dropout from The School of Hard" Knox

4) Elijah Burke & Matt Striker d. Sabu & RVD

Speaking of ECW, ECW's December to Dismember ppv now holds a ppv buyrate record for WWE. That's right, the ECW ppv drew the LOWEST ppv buyrate in WWE history with only 90,000 buys. Blame for this will no doubt lie somewhere else other than Vince's bad decision making with the ECW brand.

TNA's special "This is TNA" on Monday night got a 1.18 cable rating-in my opinion, not that impressive considering this was supposed to be a tool used to gain new viewership-I think TNA needed to advertise this better.

Smackdown from last week scored a 3.0 with a 5.1 share

Ron Killings recently underwent knee surgery and was walking around at the Impact tapings on crutches

Christopher Daniels was not backstage at either the ppv or the Impact tapings

Apparently Spike TV threw a party for the TNA locker room after the tapings on Monday night. Morale was said to be way up and word is that TNA is very close to securing a two hour timeslot.

Shoptna.com has brand new tshirts of Raven and Scott Steiner

WWE has adopted a new house show policy where wrestlers can no longer go check in at the building, go to the gym and work out, then return.

Donald Trump has agreed to appear on a number of RAWs leading up to Wrestlemania

WWE Hall of Famer Pat Patterson recently sang at CanadaFest in Hollywood, CA.

Bruiser Promoter Bob Luce passed away Thursday

A promoter extraordinaire

Staging pro wrestling shows was a labor of love for Bob Luce

By Michael Hirsley
Tribune staff reporter

February 12, 2007, 10:46 PM CST

Before America had the wrestling likes of Hulk Hogan, The Rock, Vince McMahon and WWE Raw, Chicago had Bob Luce.

Ahead of his time in the sports-as-entertainment world, Luce was a wrestling promoter extraordinaire in the 1960s and '70s.

Luce died Thursday on the eve of his 79th birthday. The one-time high school football player's passion became wrestling in general and marketing it in particular. He was literally wedded to the game, marrying a star female wrestler named Sharon Lass.

He brought noted grapplers such as Andre the Giant, Dick the Bruiser, Buddy Rogers, Gorgeous George and Verne Gagne to Chicago, showcased them in appearances, including his weekly local TV show leading up to his events, and introduced them with elaborate music as they entered the arena.

His main place of business was the International Amphitheater, where he reportedly drew 120,000 fans to 14 shows with gross receipts in excess of $325,000 in 1968, all impressive numbers at that time.

He rubbed elbows with Chicago luminaries from Mayor Richard J. Daley to sportscasters Jack Brickhouse, Bob Elson and young prospect Chet Coppock to Tribune columnist Dave Condon.

Defining and defending his line of work to Condon in 1970, Luce amusingly explained, "I match the Saints against the Sinners, and the Amphitheater is the ideal site.

"If wrestling has an odor, as some suggest, it is not readily detectable in this arena that also caters to livestock shows and political conventions."

"He was the most uplifting person I knew, the love of my life," said Lass, who works as an administrative assistant at a church in Glenview, where she lives and cared for her husband during a lengthy illness.

A master showman, Luce knew how to add gravitas to his events even while speaking tongue-in-cheek.

Before a bout between Dick the Bruiser and Gene Kiniski, Luce announced that he was hiring extra-large security guards "to ensure the safety of ringside fans." If either combatant was thrown through the ropes, Luce deadpanned, "they will be thrown back in."

Coppock, who was in public relations before becoming a sportscaster, recalled that client Luce was "very engaging, a classically robust person.

"He actually became a bigger personality than his fighters."

Lass recalled her husband concocting such stunts as driving Gorgeous George downtown in a pink Cadillac so the wrestler could throw roses to women and take their hands toward his lips before kissing his own hand in conceit.

Luce "never called it pro wrestling or grappling or the mat world," Coppock recalled. "He always called it 'the business.'" And despite all the theatrics, "he would never admit to me that the business was phony."

Coppock had the impression that Luce became withdrawn after leaving the business and briefly promoting boxing. Lass said her husband told her, "Wrestling was fun, boxing was not."

Chicagoan Paul "Golden Boy" Christy not only wrestled on Luce's shows, he demonstrated various techniques on a "Hold of the Week" segment on Luce's TV show for about a year.

Recalling that Luce also wrote for a now-defunct "Tattler" national tabloid, Christy said, "Talk about a man who was creative. His energy level was incredibly high and his imagination was wild."

Luce served in China with the Army in World War II. On his return to the U.S., his plane caught on fire and made an emergency landing, and "he said he'd never fly again," Lass recounted.

He took trains and loved boating on his 34-foot cruiser "Luv-Inn," she said.

Survivors include his widow, the former Sharon Laschen, sons Robert Jr. and Daniel and daughters Robin Buch and Dawn. Visitation and services are scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home, to be followed by interment with military honors at Arlington Park Cemetery, all in Milwaukee.

The Wrestleline Report-Tuesday

To caller Michael C. Rogers, yes Jeff Jarrett is still around-just doing stuff backstage in TNA. He has taken some time off to deal with some family issues. As far as the rumors of Scott Hall making a comeback, I have heard that Hall is currently training to make a comeback, whether or not that happens is another thing.

Stacy Keibler debuted on the ABC series "What about Brian" last night-leave your thoughts if you caught it!

It was announced at the RAW tapings last night that Dusty Rhodes will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year.

Also announced at the RAW tapings last night was the stipulation for the McMahon v. Trump feud at Wrestlemania-a hair v. hair match. The people involved for the match have yet to be announced.

Just in case you hadn't heard, ECW star Test has been suspended for violating WWE's Wellness Policy. Details have yet to be released as to exactly why.

Scott Steiner sustained a chair shot to the head at the Against All Odds ppv by Samoa Joe on Sunday night, resulting in him bleeding. At first the injury was thought to be something serious, but it appears Steiner will not be missing any time.

TNA is seeking a promoter's license in the state of Kentucky. Apparently they are interested in possibly running monthly house shows at the Louisville Gardens, which is a 3500 seat arena. OVW used to run shows at Louisville Gardens quite a bit with their last event at the arena taking place a few years back. I actually was fortunate enough to have attended the event and met with several WWE superstars.

Preview of Wrestling Society X tonight on MTV at 10:30pm:

Musical guest-Sparta
"The Prince Of Parkland" Jack Evans vs. the debuting El Hombre Blanco Enmascarado

The Trailer Park Boyz (Nate Webb & Josh Abercrombie) vs. The Filth & The Fury (Teddy Hart & M-Dogg 20 Matt Cross).

TLC (Tables, Ladders & Cerveza) Match: Los Pochos Guapos (Joey "Kaos" Muñoz & Aaron "Jesus" Aguilera) vs. Luke Hawx & Alkatrazz

Two weeks of TNA Impact Spoilers!

These are LIVE SPOILERS from TNA IMPACT tapings to air in the next two weeks. Tonight we walked into the building and found out the new match to debut at Destination X on March 11th. It is called Elevation X! It is one of the most intimidating structures outside of the Six Sides of Steel. There will be a gauntlet match to determine the new number one contender to the NWA World Heavyweight champion “Captain Charisma” Christian Cage. The show was filmed out of sequence but I have put it in order, I think. Tonight showed why TNA needs a two hour show because all of this gets jumbled together. On the TV show but not seen here is some kind of X Division Idol event with the Naked Oily Guy, Kevin Nash and $o Cal Val.

Hour one results:

(1) NWA World Tag Team champions Latin American Xchange (“Notorious 187” Homicide and Hotstuff Hernandez w/Konnan and Machete) defeated Shark Boy and Norman Smiley.

The LAX had some fan support as Homicide hit Shark Boy with an Acecrusher and Hernandez choked and then tossed Smiley across the ring. After a top rope move from Homicide it was all over. But Team 3D came on the screens and said they were still gunning for the titles. They said they made a call and got Steven Schiripa of the Sopranos and Spike TV’s Casino Cinema. They said next week LAX would get beat down in a Belting Pot match with people around the ring holding leather straps. Konnan said those guys couldn’t tear a chicken up and they could bring everyone including Emeril Legasse for the match next week.

Mike Tenay and Don West talked to the home viewers. “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner made his way into the Impact Zone. Steiner said a month ago Cage called him and asked how to beat Kurt Angle. Steiner said his contract negotiations were put on hold last September because TNA signed Angle. Steiner said like Angle he had beaten HHH, John Cena and Batista. Steiner said Angle’s keeps calling wanting satisfaction and that brought Angle out of the locker room. Angle said he didn’t come to TNA for the money and would kick Steiner’s as for free. He reminded everyone he came to TNA because it was not where he had worked. Steiner said Angle had what he wanted but Angle said talking was over. The fighting began and Angle Olympic Slam and Ankle Lock spoke volumes. Tomko and Christian Cage hit the ring and with help from Steiner got Angle down until Shark Boy, Jay Lethal, Norman Smiley Samoa Joe, Rhino and the Voodoo Kin Mafia hit the ring. Angle talked to Samoa Joe and said their title agreement was on but with tonight’s gauntlet match it was everyone for themselves.

As the show came back from commercial the scaffold rigging was lowered over the ring. Apparently hour one of Impact on TV will begin here. I think Mike Tenay and Don West talked about it. They cut to the interview girl who was with Christian Cage, Scott Steiner and Tomko talking about the gauntlet. Cage tried to talk Steiner and Tomko into forfeiting the match after tossing everyone out. Steiner and Tomko wanted nothing to do with the idea. Jeremy Borash was talking to Ms. Brooks and Eric Young. Brooks said Young was an idiot for falling for her. Robert Roode interjected demanding Young to remove the “Don’t Fire Eric” t-shirt and do his job tonight in the gauntlet, help Robert Roode win. Bob Backlund walked through as Roode and Brooks left.

(2) In an arm wrestling match, Gail Kim defeated “the Pride of Tennessee” Jacqueline Moore (w/Tennessee Cowboy” James Storm).

I was a little surprised Kim came without any kind of backup. Before the lockup Storm had Moore warm up with some punches. Slick Johnson made Storm exit the ring and we were on the way and Kim won. Storm tossed the table over and Kim attacked Moore. Storm grabbed Kim so Moore could punched her but Petey Williams hit the ring and then the mat as Storm beat him down. Storm looked real cocky until “Wildcat” Chris Harris jumped the rail coming through the crowd. Storm grabbed Moore and hid behind her until he could exit the ring and run for his life.

For the gauntlet Jim Cornette joined Mike Tenay and Don West.

(3) In a Gauntlet match, Samoa Joe became the new number one contender. Two men began and the others entered in two minute intervals. The participants entered in the following order with who tossed them out thanks to Bryan of Universal Studios:

(1) Sting (tossed out by Roode) (2) “the Phenomenal” AJ Styles ( tossed out by Tomko) (3) Rhino (tossed out by Tomko) (4) “Tennessee Cowboy” James Storm (tossed out by Angle) (5) “the Future” Chris Sabin (tossed out by Abyss) (6) Kip James (tossed out by Joe) (7) Abyss (tossed out by Joe) (8) Kurt Angle (tossed out by Steiner) (9) Tomko (10) Samoa Joe (11) Robert Roode (tossed out by Sting) (12) BG James (tossed out by Steiner) (13) “Showtime” Eric Young (tossed out by Tomko) (14) “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner (tossed by Joe with help from Tomko.) Joe and Tomko didn’t last too long as Joe hit an enziguri and the Muscle Buster to win. Christian Cage immediately hit the ring but Kurt angle came out to even the side a bit. TNA officials were somehow able to separate everyone.

Hour two results:

Don West brought out Spike TV’s Pros vs. Joes athlete and former NFL Wide Receiver Andre Rison to meet the fans and talk about the show. They were interrupted by Abyss who I don’t think watches TV. Just when it looked like Rison was going to shake hands, Abyss hit him with the Black Hole Slam.

(1) In a (non title) Belting Pot match, Team 3D members Ray and Devon defeated NWA World Tag Team champions Latin American Xchange (“Notorious 187” Homicide and Hotstuff Hernandez).

If anyone cares some of the LAX whippers were members of the FXE training school. 3D whippers were Bruce Santee, Ron Niemi, Leon Scott, Chasyn Rance, Francisco Ciatso and Sal Rinauro. With the outside action it was a little hard to follow. Devon backdropped Homicide to the floor and the whipping began and Homicide quickly scrambled back into the ring. However he wasn’t safe there as until he tossed Devon out to the LAX side of town where they whipped Devon. Hernandez tagged in and the power went back and forth until Devon tossed Hernandez to the floor. Hernandez got back in and quickly tagged Homicide who cut off Devon from tagging out. However a double clothesline provided enough distance for Devon to tag in Ray as both faction fought on the floor with their straps. 3D hit the 3D but Homicide broke up the pin. With Hernandez and Devon tossed to the floor all bets were off. Even Steven Schiripa got involved helping 3D hit the Wassup on Homicide. They won when they hit Hernandez with another 3D as the fighting continued. After the match Ray went into the crowd and got right in the face of some LAX fans.

The scaffold rigging was lowered and “the Phenomenal” AJ Styles came out to the ring and climbed to the top. He proclaimed himself the most decorated wrestler in TNA, said he invented X Division and also made the Ultimate X match famous. He called the Scaffold “Elevation X” his creation. And he was going to make someone famous for fighting him. Rhino came out to join Styles on the Scaffold but Styles climbed down to safer ground. Rhino said he was tired of Styles running and “Elevation X” was going to be the end of his career.

(2) Robert Roode (w/Ms. Brooks), “Tennessee Cowboy” James Storm (w/the Pride of Tennessee” Jacqueline Moore) and “Showtime” Eric Young defeated Voodoo Kin Mafia (Kip and BG James) and Lance Hoyt.

Young and BG began the match as Young stood in the ring totally confused what to do. Instead he did some dancing with BG and accidentally helped double clothesline Storm. Roode came in and with some help from Storm got BG off his feet. BG was able to tag in Hoyt who cleaned house as BG and Kip tried to get to Moore. Hoyt went up but his top rope move was cut off by Roode who dropped him on the turnbuckle crotch first. After the pin “Wildcat” Chris Harris came from the crowd again and chased Storm to the locker room.

Mike Tenay and Don West talked to the home fans. The ring was set up for Destination X contract signing with Jim Cornette and Mike Tenay in the ring. They brought out “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner and Kurt Angle. Steiner said he didn’t want Angle to make more money then he was contracted to make on a PPV. Angle said his reasons for coming to TNA weren’t selfish like Steiner’s, he came to make TNA bigger not rape it for all its worth. Angle said he was going to make an example of “the money grubbing whiny bitch” Steiner had become. After the contact was signed the table was tossed and Steiner head butted Angle which spilt both of them open. Tomko and Cage hit the ring and Angle with all they had.

(3) In a ladder X match Jerry Lynn defeated Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, the Austin Starr and Senshi.

By winning this Lynn became number one contender to face “the Future” Chris Sabin. This was harder to follow then any other match with the ladders on the floor and at the same time the combatants. Starr and Senshi fought over a ladder by chest chopping each other. Lynn got a ladder but got it kicked in his face the same way Lethal kicked the ladder Starr and Senshi fought over. During the bout Bob Backlund came out to watch. Lynn hit a wheel barrel move dropping Dutt on a ladder. Senshi went for a handspring elbow to the corner but Lynn caught him. But Lynn fell to the mat and Senshi hit the double stomp. All three ladders were set up as everyone fought for the X. Starr stopped Senshi but Lynn stopped both of them, sending them crashing to the ropes below. Lynn retrieved the X to win. After the match Backlund shook hands with Dutt and Lethal before entering to talk to Lynn. Starr got in Backlund’s face once more and got locked in the Crossface Chicken Wing.

Xplosion matches:

(1) World X Division champion “the Future” Chris Sabin defeated Shark Boy with a rollup and both arms draped over the ropes.

(2) Petey Williams, Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt defeated Serotonin members “Maverick” Matt Bentley, Frankie “the Future” Kazarian and “Hotshot” Johnny Devine vs. after Williams hit Kazarian with the Canadian Destroyer and Dutt hit a standing shooting star press. After the loss Raven (wearing angel’s wings) came out to deliver some discipline to Kazarian. After two shots Kazarian in Ravens’s face but he dropped down for one more.
