The Wrestleline Report-Saturday

Rick Karle, WBRC sports director was once again interviewed on the Fox News Channel Friday Night.

- Karle said police returned to the scene where Sherri Martel died in Alabama on Friday, two weeks after she passed away. The police would not divulge what investigators were looking for.

- Karle said Martel has a drug history. She was fired by WWF in 1993 for failing three drug tests, and was let go by WCW for showing up to work impaired at a television taping.

- Martel’s sister told Karle that Martel used to smoke marijuana, and that she recently got out of rehab. Her sister said she seemed clean.

- Her husband in St. Petersburgh, FL claims he found Sherri’s body in a bedroom, but her sister claims Sherri dead on her front porch while having coffee with her mother. She apparently felt dizzy and collapsed.

- Karle said that most people around the situation believe drugs were involved in Martel’s death. Her sister , in fact, believes drugs were a factor. In fact, a possibility is that she may have accidentally taken some of her husband’s prescription medication.

- Karle is now hearing that autopsy and toxicology reports may not be completed for upwards of one year.

Booker T's PWA held another event last night in TX, drawing about 580 fans. The main event featured Booker T and one of his local guys taking on Team 3D. Apparently there were a lot of TNA chants. The event was said to be a great success, and also featured a tag team tournament, and a semi final match for the PWA Heavyweight Championship.

According to, Domino (one half of the tag team champions) suffered a broken nose and a possible broken orbital socket during his Smackdown match against Cryme Tyme. WWE medical staff tended to Domino where he was diagnosed with the injury.

When Debra Marshall-ex wife of Steve Austin-was on Hannity and Colmes, she stated that Austin legally changed his name to Steve Austin, whereas he had been going by "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, in and out of the ring. I guess Marshall and Bill DeMott, who was also on the program, got into a heated argument about her just now bringing up these accusations against Austin and steroid use in wrestling. She defended her actions, and stated that she was told not to say anything about the steroid use and abuse, and had to take therapy after she and Austin broke up.

Mike Awesome News & Notes

In light of the Chris Benoit tragedy that took the life of Chris (40),
his wife Nancy (43), and their 7-year old son Daniel, news of Mike
Awesome's suicide is now coming to light.

According to sources, Awesome was told by his wife that she was unhappy
and wanted a divorce. Upon hearing the news, Awesome physically confronted
his wife by grabbing her by the throat and throwing her against or into a

Awesome's wife called police and had Mike arrested for domestic abuse.
While in jail Awesome was told by his wife that she was leaving him,
taking his money, and, again according to sources, told the former ECW
Champion that she "hated" him. She then took what she could from their
home, threw out certain things that belonged to Awesome, and left.

Sources claim that Awesome was beyond distraught and very depressed about
the marriage, which he felt was stable and secure, all of a sudden being
stripped out from under him. All of this transpiring while Awesome was
still in jail, it should be noted.

Shortly after returning home from jail, with nothing left to come back to,
Awesome hanged himself. Friends discovered the body shortly afterwards.

Rick Karle, WBRC sports director was interviewed by Greta Van Susteren:

Martel dropped dead while drinking coffee on her front porch with her mother, according to Sherri’s sister Vickie. Her sister speculated that Martel was taking something for her heart, but when asked if it was steroids, she had no comment. This refutes reports that her husband found Martel.

Karle was told that toxicology and autopsy reports may not be released for another five to six months.

Karle noted that Martel was buried Thursday.

Despite a six figure offer by AAA, Hulk Hogan is off the the 7/15 TripleMania super show.

- Ron Killings and Sabu have confirmed their bookings.

- Lita will work the show as a referee and will perform with her punk band, The Luchagores. The band will open the show with a mini-concert.

Chuck Palumbo beat Kenny Dykstra in the dark match. Decent heat, and the crowd got into it at the end.

Ric Flair and Carlito are having a match and getting a lot of time. Flair won with the figure four in a good match. Flair was on fire.

Edge vs. Batista will be the main event.

Matt Hardy vs. Lance Cade. Matt won with the twist of fate in a good match.

Chavo Guerrero vs. Jamie Noble vs. Funaki. Chavo is getting cheered loudly. He won with the Gori bomb in a good match.

They actually did an angle backstage with Vickie Guerrero. Something about how Batista vs. Edge was going to take place even though they were never supposed to wrestle again, but it wouldn't be a title match.

Deuce and Domino beat Cryme Tyme. Not horrible. Cryme Tyme told the car afterwards and are going to strip it at the Brisco Brothers' auto shop.

MVP cut a promo on Tony Parker of the Spurs.

Kane beat MVP with the chokeslam.

They did a skit with Great Khali and Eugene. Then they did another one that involved Vickie, I believe Vickie, Hacksaw Jim Duggan and the fat oily guy. Basically a way to get Ron Simmons there to go, "DAMN!"

Mickey beat Victoria after missing a moonsault. Not bad.

Eugene vs. Great Khali. Khali won in a minute.

Batista beat Edge clean with the spear in a long match. Good stuff.

Almost all Benoit signs have been confiscated since the show began.

Interview Recaps-Jericho, Hart, Laurer, Graham, & Debra

Recap of Debra and Superstar Billy Graham on Hannity & Colmes

Debra (formerly of WCW and WWE), the ex-wife of Steve Austin and “Superstar” Billy Graham were interviewed on Fox New Channel’s “Hannity and Colmes.”

Debra Marshall

- Marshall said Austin took steroids, and she saw him use them.

- She said the wrestling industry is a hush hush business, and people don’t talk about this topic openly.

- She attributes Austin’s domestic abuse on her to steroid abuse.

- Marshall said she thought the last time she was attacked by Austin, she was going to die. It was ‘roid’ rage in her opinion, and he had been drinking.

- She said she showed up to work with bruises, but nobody said anything because Austin made millions for the company.

- She said if she had spoken up years ago, maybe Nancy and Daniel would be alive today.

- She said WWE told her not say anything about the domestic abuse.

- She said WWE is deflecting the heat about ‘roid’ rage.

- Marshall said that Graham has never been on the end of someone being abused by somebody on steroids.

“Superstar” Billy Graham

- Graham said WWE is not responsible for the Benoit tragedy, as the San Francisco Giants would not be responsible if Barry Bonds had a ‘roid’ rage.

- He said WWE isn’t a baby sister, and wrestlers must be responsible for their own actions.

- Graham wondered if there were pain killers, sleeping pills, anti-depressants, etc. in the home, as the media only asked if steroids were found.

- Graham said his wife Valerie has seen some of his past rages.

- Graham said Benoit passed a WWE drug test in April for steroids, but has no doubt that Benoit has used steroids in the past.

Recap of Bret Hart & Joanie "Chyna" Laurer on Greta Van Susteren

Notes from the Fox Sports News channel’s “On the record with Greta Van Susteren”

- They showed investigators removing computers from Dr. Ashin’s office.

- Ashin prescripted Testosterone due to Benoit’s low testosterone levels, likely as a result of previouis steroid use.

- Investigators found numerous prescription drugs inside the Benoit home.

- Jimmy Wales of was interviewed and has no idea who posted Nancy Benoit’s death hours before her body was found. He said they are cooperating with the police.

- He said the person that made the entry also edited other wrestling stories, as determined by the person’s IP number.

Bret Hart

- Hart said the Wikipedia tidbit is just another bizarre piece to the puzzle.

- Hart said he doesn’t know anyone who received a text message from Benoit.

- Hart doesn’t refute that Benoit was taking testosterone. Hart said he wants to get to the bottom of this like everyone.

- Hart said there has been a problem with steroid use in wrestling, but noted that WWE is drug testing.

- Hart said wrestlers took steroids during the Hulk Hogan years to help in recuperating their bodies.

- Hart said WWE has previously drug tested, but had abandoned testing until the Eddy Guerrero death.

- He said his best matches were when he was steroid free.

Joanie “Chyna Doll” Laurer

- “I’m disgusted and horrified,” said Laurer of the Benoit tragedy.

- She said WWE has had major read flags over the years.

- Laurer said she was never drug tested when she was in the WWE.

- She said she never used steroids, but feared using them as a women’s wrestler.

- “Very quiet and talent,” said of Benoit. She said he was trained in Japan. She said she didn’t know Nancy Benoit.

- Laurer said Vince McMahon is happy to be his trade marking on you and owning you. She said he hasn’t taken enough responsibility. “He hasn’t been a very kind person,” said Laurer.

Chris Jericho on Nancy Grace Interview Recap

- Y2J characterized the Benoit case as a tale of two cities. Jericho said Benoit was his mentor, and one of his best friends. Y2J said he had told Benoit he loved him.

- “I think it goes a lot deeper than that,” said Jericho when asked about steroid being a factor.

- Y2J never discussed his son’s condition. Jericho said Benoit was a quiet person. Jericho said he wouldn’t be surprised if Jericho’s parents never knew of Daniel’s condition.

- Jericho said when he learned of Daniel’s fragile X syndrome condition, it made sense since the young Benoit had the symptoms such as lack of social skills, flapping of the hands, being hyper, having trouble focusing, ADHD, having a bigger head with smaller ears, etc. Previously, Jericho thought Daniel was naturally withdrawn like Benoit.

- “fabrication,” said Y2J of reports that Benoit was distraught about being demoted to the ECW brand. Jericho said Benoit was on the verge of winning of the ECW title, and would have been a coach/mentor in WWE’s third brand.

- Jericho said Benoit never had a job of outside of the wrestling business.

- Jericho said Benoit’s son is 14 years old and daughter is 10 or 11, and hanging in there.

- Jericho suggested that Benoit had a deep dark mental problem that had been building inside him for years.

- Jericho said Benoit loved his children, and even would fly home just to be with his kids for a few hours.

- Jericho said the WWE drug testing is random and independently done. He said wrestlers have failed the drug test, and suggested they ask Vince McMahon for the names.

* On a side note, Nancy Grace brought up the Wikipedia entry, and a suggestion was made that perhaps Benoit had told someone of his wife’s death.

* A caller asked about a scenario that Benoit himself was murdered, and the panel insisted that the evidence doesn’t support that theory. A guest suggested that until the toxicology reports come in, that perhaps Nancy Benoit killed Daniel since she was a woman’s wrestler.

* Grace said a statuette of Benoit was found near Daniel’s body.

AP Reports Benoit was a client of company in steroids probe

Dead wrestler was client of company in steroids probe

Associated Press - June 26, 2007 10:05 PM ET

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A professional wrestler who killed himself and his family was a former customer of a company implicated in an upstate New York investigation of illegal steroid sales.

That's according to the Albany County District Attorney's Office, which is conducting the investigation here.

Authorities in Fayetteville, Georgia, say today that Chris Benoit strangled his wife, suffocated his 7-year-old son before hanging himself over the weekend.

Investigators found anabolic steroids in the house and want to know whether the muscular man was unhinged by the bodybuilding drugs, which can cause paranoia, depression and explosive outbursts known as "roid rage."

In Albany, the DA's office confirms the 40-year-old Benoit was a customer as recently as last year of the south Florida company MedXLife.

2 of its co-owners pleaded guilty to drug charges in Albany County in April, admitting they helped get prescriptions drugs in 2006 for customers in upstate New York who had no medical need for them. The pair testified Signature Pharmacy of Orlando filled the orders.

MedXLife, no longer taking orders, attracted customers through its Web site.

Howard Stern discusses Benoit

Howard got into the story about this guy Chris Benoit being found dead in his home with his wife and child. He said that the three of them may have been involved in a murder/suicide. Robin said that he was apparently called home for a family emergency even though he was supposed to be at some big event last night. Howard played a clip of Vince McMahon explaining what was going on last night at the event. He said that the event was supposed to be filled to capacity with the fans. They had to cancel that and Vince explained to the fans what was going on. Howard said it was weird when Vince was talking like ''regular Vince.''

Howard said Triple H got on that special and told a freaky story. He played the clip of that where Triple H was asking what Chris Benoit was and he figured that it was all about respect. He demanded respect and it meant everything to him. He then tells a story about how Chris took it upon himself to teach another wrestler a lesson after he had disrespected another guy by making him do 1000 squats. The next day the guy couldn't bend his legs so he forced him to do 500 more squats. That's how much respect meant to him. Howard said that sounds like something KC's father would do to him. He said he could never deal with something like that in his life. Howard said that story was kind of insightful because maybe that's the way he reacted to something in his personal life and took it to an extreme.

Howard said that there are some angry dudes there in the WWE. He wondered if Chris' wife Texted ''143'' to someone. He was referring to Sal's wife when he brought up that ''143'' thing."

A co-worker received a voice message from Benoit. The message from Benoit stated he missed his flight and over slept and would be late to the WWE Live Event. The co-worker called Benoit back, Benoit confirmed everything he said in his voice message and sounded tired and groggy. Benoit then stated, “I love you”. The co-worker stated that it was “out of context.”

The same co-worker was concerned with Benoit’s tone and demeanor and called Benoit for a second time. Benoit did not answer the call and the co-worker left a message stating “just call me back.”

Benoit called the co-worker back stating he didn’t answer the call because he was on the phone with Delta changing his flight. Benoit stated he had a real stressful day due to Nancy and Daniel being sick with food poisoning. They discussed travel plans for the WWE Tour of Texas with Benoit still sounding groggy at this point according to the co-worker.

A co-worker who consistently travels with Benoit, called Benoit from outside Houston airport and Benoit answered. Benoit told the co-worker that Nancy was throwing up blood and that Daniel was also throwing up. Benoit thought they had food poisoning. Benoit stated he changed his flight and he would be arriving into Houston at 6:30pm. Benoit told the co-worker to drive onto the WWE event.

Benoit called WWE Talent Relations stating that his son was throwing up and that he and Nancy were in the hospital with their son, and that Benoit would be taking a later flight into Houston, landing late, but would make the WWE live event in Beaumont.

A representative of Talent Relations called Benoit. The representative from Talent Relations asked Benoit what time Benoit was getting into Beaumont. Benoit responded he was leaving Atlanta at 9:20pm Eastern time arriving into Houston at 9:24pm Central time. The representative from Talent Relations advised Benoit that it would be too late to make the WWE live event in Beaumont. Benoit apologized citing he had a family emergency. The representative from Talent Relations suggested to Benoit that instead of going to the WWE live event in Beaumont, Benoit should take the flight to Houston, rest up and be ready for the Vengeance Pay-Per-View event.

The representative from Talent Relations called Benoit to reconfirm the travel plans with no answer from Benoit. The representative from Talent Relations left a voice message to take the flight and rest up.

More Details from DA Ballard & other notes

District Attorney Scott Ballard was interviewed on the Fox News channel and stated that a cable was found around the neck on Nancy Benoit. He said Daniel was found face down on his bed, also strangled.

Ballard said in the weight room in the basement, Benoit wrapped a cable from a weight machine around his neck. He first wrapped a cloth around his neck. When Benoit let the cable go, the weights lifted up and straggled him.

Pam Winthrope said Benoit's son had a genetic condition called Fragile X syndrome. Winthrope said she has experienced the condition first hand and knows how it can tear a family apart.

Benoit has quickly become #1 on the web on Yahoo's Buzz top searches list.

Benoit had maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling. The Fayette County Tax Assessors Office lists the value of the house, situated on more than 8.5 acres, at nearly $900,000.

Updated AP Benoit Story

Benoit Strangled Wife, Smothered Son
Wednesday June 27, 8:13 am ET
By Greg Bluestein, Associated Press Writer

Wrestler Who Strangled Wife, Smothered Son Said He'd Be Late to Event Because Family Was Ill FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- Two days before he and his family were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide, pro wrestler Chris Benoit told co-workers his wife and son had food poisoning and were throwing up, according to World Wrestling Entertainment.

Benoit strangled his wife, suffocated his 7-year-old son and placed a Bible next to their bodies before hanging himself with a weight-machine pulley, authorities said Tuesday.

Authorities offered no motive for the killings, which were spread out over the weekend and discovered Monday. No suicide note was found.

On Saturday, Benoit called a co-worker to say he had missed a flight and would be late for a wrestling event in Texas, WWE said in a timeline posted Tuesday on its Web site. The co-worker said Benoit sounded tired and groggy and said "I love you," which the co-worker found "out of context," WWE said.

When a co-worker who usually travels with Benoit called him later from the Houston airport, Benoit told the co-worker his wife, Nancy, was throwing up blood and that his son, Daniel, also was throwing up. Benoit said he thought it was food poisoning, according to WWE.

After Benoit talked to a WWE Talent Relations representative, the representative suggested Benoit try to make it to a pay-per-view event in Houston since he would not be able to make it to the live event in Beaumont, Texas.

But early Sunday, two co-workers received a series of text messages from the cell phones of Benoit and his wife. Most stated his home address in Fayetteville, about 20 miles south of Atlanta. One message from Benoit's phone said: "The dogs are in the enclosed pool area. Garage side door is open," according to WWE.

The text messages led WWE to ask authorities to check on Benoit and his family.

District Attorney Scott Ballard said the messages appeared to be an attempt by Benoit to get someone to the home to find the bodies after his suicide.

Investigators found anabolic steroids in the house and want to know whether the muscle man nicknamed "The Canadian Crippler" was unhinged by the bodybuilding drugs, which can cause paranoia, depression and explosive outbursts known as "roid rage."

"In a community like this it's bizarre to have a murder-suicide, especially involving the death of a 7-year-old," Ballard said. "I don't think we'll ever be able to wrap our minds around this."

He said Benoit's 43-year-old wife was killed Friday in an upstairs family room, and her feet and wrists were bound and there was blood under her head, indicating a possible struggle. Daniel was probably killed late Saturday or early Sunday, and his body was found in his bed, the district attorney said.

Benoit, 40, apparently hanged himself hours later, Ballard said. His body was found in a downstairs weight room hanging from the pulley of a piece of exercise equipment.
The prosecutor said it appeared the wrestler remained in the house for up to a day with the bodies.

The boy had old needle marks in his arms, Ballard said. He said he had been told the parents considered him undersized and had given him growth hormones.

"The boy was very small, even dwarfed," Ballard said.
Toxicology test results may not be available for weeks or even months, Ballard said. As for whether steroids played a role in the crime, he said: "We don't know yet. That's one of the things we'll be looking at."

Benoit received drug deliveries from a Florida business that sold steroids, human growth hormone and testosterone on the Internet, according to the Albany County, N.Y., District Attorney's Office, which is investigating the business,

Six people, including two of the pharmacy's owners, have pleaded guilty in the investigation, and 20 more have been arrested, including doctors and pharmacists.

The WWE, based in Stamford, Conn., issued a statement Tuesday saying steroids "were not and could not be related to the cause of death."

"The physical findings announced by authorities indicate deliberation, not rage," the company said, adding that Benoit tested negative April 10, the last time he was tested for drugs.

Steroids have been linked to the deaths of several professional wrestlers in recent years. Eddie Guerrero, one of Benoit's best friends, died in 2005 from heart failure linked to long-term steroid use.

The father of Curt "Mr. Perfect" Hennig blamed steroids and painkillers for Hennig's drug overdose death in 2003. Davey Boy Smith, the "British Bulldog," died in 2002 from heart failure that a coroner said was probably caused by steroids.

Associated Press writers Debbie Newby and Jason Bronis contributed to this report.

Stone Cold's ex wife, Debra, comments on Benoit Death

Pro Wrestling Wife Claims Drug Abuse, Domestic Violence 'Out of Hand in the WWE'

The former wife of pro wrestling superstar "Stone Cold" Steve Austin broke what had been a court-imposed silence and charged that "domestic and drug abuse is out of hand in the WWE and something needs to be done about it."

Debra Williams' stunning charge, reported Wednesday by, comes in the wake of the grisly discovery of the bodies of Chris Benoit and his wife, Nancy-Daus Benoit, and 7-year-old son, Daniel.

Click here to see pictures of Benoit.

Police in Fayetteville, Ga., say Benoit strangled his wife Friday, then suffocated his son on Saturday before hanging himself on Sunday. Their bodies were discovered Monday morning after Benoit canceled pay-per-view and personal appearances that weekend in Texas.

Investigators said anabolic steroids and other drugs were found in the Benoit house.

Williams, meanwhile, is one of the more visible wrestling wives and had been scripted into many televised bouts and appearances. She was married to Steve McMichaels, a former Chicago Bears football player, when she first began working with the Atlanta-base World Championship Wrestling organization. When that group was acquired by WWF — now WWE — she divorced McMichaels and married Austin.

Williams told that Nancy-Daus Benoit's history of domestic violence and being married to a steroid user was similar to her own.

Click here to see pictures of Nancy-Daus Benoit.

Both sought help from law enforcement because of domestic abuse, she said.

In 2003, Benoit sought a divorce from Chris Benoit saying he physically abused her, and asked the courts for a restraining order. Williams did the same thing on the third occasion when she says she was attacked by "Stone Cold."

"He did them, I saw him do them!" Williams said about her ex-husband's use of steroids.

Williams says, like Benoit, Austin all but forced her to write a letter to authorities saying her complaint was a mistake. But in Williams’ case, the courts put Austin on probation for a year. In return, Williams says she was placed under a gag order, forcing her to remain silent about the "dark side" of professional wrestling, filled with drugs, booze and domestic abuse.

"If only I had spoken up sooner, maybe Nancy and her little boy would be alive today... that's why I'm going public now, something has to change!"

Chris Benoit Update

News conference notes from Fayetteville, GA:

From: WGGL shown on the Fox News Channel

- Lt. Pope: WWE called police officials at 2:30PM on Monday over concern for Benoit’s well being. Police found all three bodies in the home. “Double Homicide Suicide” is the official ruling.

- It appears Benoit killed his wife on Friday, his son shortly after, and likely hanged himself either late Saturday night or early Sunday.

- No suicide note was left behind.

- Asphyxiation is the official ruling for Benoit’s wife and son deaths.

- Benoit was previously arrested for a DUI.

- A lot of prescription medication was found in the home, legal prescriptions.

- Police found anabolic steroids in the home.

- No comment from police regarding a possible motivation.

- Benoit killed himself several hours, but no more than a day, after killing son Daniel. Benoit committed suicide by a cable or cord.

- Police is unaware of prior domestic violence.

- District Attorney Scott Ballard stated that a Bible was placed near each murder victim.

- Benoit bound Nancy’s hands and feet, and she was wrapped in a towel. No reports of a struggle, aside from a bit of blood beneath her head.

- In 2003, a temporary restraining order was sought but later dropped.

- Benoit made no attempt to hide the bodies.

- The DA himself has not heard from WWE.

- Daniel was found in an upstairs bedroom. Benoit’s wife was also found in an upstairs family room, and Benoit hung himself in the weight room in the basement.

- The toxicology reports are still pending. It will probably take more than two weeks for the reports to be finished.

- Benoit apparently called WWE stating that Daniel was coughing up blood, thus likely the “personal reasons” for missing weekend house shows.

The Wrestleline Report-Tuesday

I will get to the Chris Benoit news and thoughts momentarily, but I think along with remembering him, we should still report other news as normal, so even though there's not much, here's some other news first.

TNA Impact got it's highest rating to date last week, with a 1.21 cable rating.

Kurt Angle recently turned down a reported seven figure deal from Bodog Fight, which would have included multiple fights, but Angle has said he only wants to do one or two fights total-most likely a tune up match, followed by a fight against either Brock Lesnar or Daniel Puder. Angle said recently in an interview that he personally called Lesnar trying to put together a match for Bodog. He also stated that he didn't feel UFC president Dana White respected his gold medal.

In what can only be described as a very eerie coincidence, apparently a couple weeks ago concerned fans in Atlanta had called CNN asking if they had any information on the death of Chris Benoit.

CNN had a live report this morning from outside of the Benoit home and interviewed an investigator, who said that they don't feel there is a killer at large, but are not ruling out any possibilities, and that they would know more in the next few days. The toxicology report should be in sometime today.

Apparently Benoit had made several curious text messages to Chavo Guerrero on Sunday, then on Monday WWE's VP of Gov.'t Relations, Richard Hering, made the call to Fayette County sheriffs on Monday requesting that they check the Benoit residence.

WWE will continue on with regular programming tonight on ECW and will not focus on either Benoit or the Mr. McMahon death storyline.

Benoit moment(s) of the day:

This is a personal favorite of mine, and is from his WCW days-which were, in my opinion, his best days. It was the episode of Nitro where they acknowledged the death of Owen Hart, and as a tribute, Benoit and Bret Hart faced each other in the main event. It was a classic matchup, one that everyone hoped it would be, and showed not only how talented and skilled Benoit was, but the closeness between the Hart family and Benoit.

R.I.P. Chris Benoit

For those who haven't heard already, "The Crippler" Chris Benoit was found dead, along with his wife and son yesterday. There is going to be a lot of reporting in upcoming days and weeks as to the causes of the deaths, and as it stands right now, the investigating police are saying that it's a murder-suicide situation, believing that Benoit killed his wife and son over the weekend, then his own life yesterday. Regardless of what gets found out about all of this, I think it's important right now that we, as wrestling fans, remember the WRESTLER Chris Benoit, as that is the side of Benoit that has captured all of our hearts over the years. He will go down in history as one of the most talented and gifted wrestlers to ever walk the face of the earth. Once again, let's all please take this time to remember Chris Benoit the wrestler, and the spectacular wrestling legacy he left behind. Take care and God bless.

The Major Bros. were moved from ECW to Smackdown, as Vince McMahon has once again decided against bringing back the ECW Tag Team Titles.

Wrestlemania 23 is currently estimated at 1,169,000 world wide PPV buys.

The plan right now is for Shane and Stephanie to play more prominent roles on tv.

There's a 50/50 chance of The Iron Shiek getting his own talk show on RAW

The Wrestleline Report-Sunday

Sherri moment(s) of the day-Ed Flesh posted on message forum that he enjoyed the time that she was managing HBK and he wrestled Rick Martel in a match where they couldn't hit each other in the face, as well as when HBK broke the mirror on her head during the Jannetty feud. I want to once again thank those who left their Sherri memories to be shared and hope that everyone will keep her in their thoughts and memories long after this week. She will be missed!

TNA has been calling RVD, but right now he's just wanting to take some time off from wrestling, and doesn't even want to think about it. With AAA's big TripleMania event coming up, and them being unable to book Hulk Hogan or Paul Wight, RVD's name had come up, but apparently they have yet to contact him.

TNA is interested in bringing back Sean Waltman to reunite with BG & Kip James. They have offered him less money than what BG & Kip make right now though, so the two sides have yet to come to an agreement.

Christopher Daniels was told that he would be working a long program with Sting, only to find out that it was concluded by the 6 min. match they had at the Slammiversary ppv. He's also been told that XXX will be reuniting-the team of himself, Elix Skipper and Senshi.

Following Konnan and Ron Killings, apparently Senshi has sought out his release from TNA, but it was turned down. Sounds like some people REALLY need to work on their management skills.

Smackdown on Friday scored a 2.6 rating, off hours of a 2.3 and a 2.9

Apparently Dusty Rhodes wants an on-air role as ECW commissioner, possibly feuding with a heel General Manager. The possibility of this happening is said to be 50/50.

Johnny Knoxville has agreed to do the WWE-Jackass angle.

Jesse "The Body" Ventura had a meeting with WWE recently, and it's being speculated that there may have been a possible dvd deal, as well as talk of him returning to tv as a general manager.

For those interested, Stone Cold's "The Condemned" will be available on dvd August 18.

The Wrestleline Report-Saturday

Don't forget to check out option 2 of The Indy Wrestleline for The Independents' Day with Randy Klemme for all of the latest midwest independent wrestling news!

Sherri moment of the day-1996 WCW World War 3 ppv-Harlem Heat v. The Amazing French Canadians-if Harlem Heat won, then Sherri got 5 min. alone with Col. Parker. She beat the hell out of Parker, with Parker running away from her. Dusty Rhodes was doing commentary and was laughing his butt off-the segment just came off as very entertaining.

TNA Impact on Thursday scored a 1.2 cable rating-up slightly from the previous week.

WWE AM Raw for last week got a 1.0 cable rating with a 4.3 share.

WWE has released ECW diva and former TNA talent Trinity. I'm not sure if we can expect to see her back in TNA or not, as I believe she may have bad mouthed the company. I could be thinking of another former TNA knockout, but we'll just see what transpires.

WWE sent out a press release touting the attention that the Mr. McMahon angle has been getting, stating that WWE was recently no. 1 and Vince McMahon no. 3 on Yahoo's "Top Leaders" list, with Paris Hilton separating the two. The Wrestleline Report-Friday

To Michael C. Rogers-thanks, but I couldn't make it to Louisville tonight even if I wanted to!

One caller wanted to know who the big name is making the jump to TNA-I have NO idea who that might be, it could be Sabu making a return, but I honestly haven't heard about this, but will keep you posted when I find out!

Sherri moment of the day-an unnamed, but regular caller says his favorite moment was at an indie show a few years back, where Sherri was doing commentating and booking for an all women's show. She did a radio interview and was her typical self, but after the interview the guy was saying how it didn't look like the show was going to do that well, and wondered why she didn't just cancel, and she very passionately explained how these girls needed places to work and learn their craft or else they would go to WWE and just be T & A airheads. Note to people leaving thoughts and memories, don't be disgruntled if I don't get to your memory on one update, I'll be doing them all week, so I will eventually get to yours! And to the caller that left this Sherri memory, no, I'm not talking about you when I gripe!

Kevin Nash turned heel on the online tv program TNA Today, announcing that he would no longer be managing Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt, but would now be managing Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin...whatever happened to Shelley & Johnny Devine working as The Paparazzi's? I thought that was a much better gimmick than the "Motor City Machine Guns".

The Wrestleline Report-Thursday

A couple of you guys have asked what that is on the main greeting-the song is called "Paint it Black", a remake of the Rolling Stones hit. The name of the band is Deadsy, and the album is called "Phantasmagore". I could be wrong, but I believe I heard the lead singer is Cher's son.

The Sherri moment of the day-Ed Flesh posted on message forum that some of his favorite Sherri Martel memories were from her days of managing Macho Man Randy Savage and HBK Shawn Michaels.

ECW on Tuesday scored a 1.6 cable rating.

Charges have been filed against Jerry Lawler for assault. From what it sounds like, he heard that a wrestler had hit a fan and then he hit the wrestler.

Apparently the "car bomb/death" storyline was pitched back in 2005, except it was supposed to be Carlito's underworld connections having blown up Smackdown GM Teddy Long, where he would've been "presumed dead" like McMahon.

WWE recently signed tv deals in Poland, Serbia, Greece and Turkey to broadcast RAW

TNA Impact Spoilers:

Jim Cornette announces Kurt Angle & Jay Lethal vs Team 3D at Victory Road with all 3 TNA titles on the line.

(1) James Storm & Robert Roode d. Rhino & Eric Young. Storm pinned Rhino with a superkick.

(2) Chris Harris d. Raven with the Catatonic after Kaz attacked Raven.

(3) Samoa Joe d. Chris Sabin & Jay Lethal in a 3 way to win the X Division Title. This means the Victory Road main event is now Angle & Joe vs Team 3D.

Jerry Lawler Charged With Assault

Charges were officially filed this morning against Jerry Lawler. Lawler was charged with assault charges stemming from the incident at Sam’s Town last Friday night. Jerry Lawler allegedly punched “The Big Cheese” Sal Corrente more than once and then yelled at me, “You stupid mother ----er, don't you ever hit a fan.” Lawler had believed that Sal, who had been hit by a fan, had retaliated and hit the fan back. Eyewitnesses at the show believe that Sal did not hit the fan, but there was no doubt in anyone’s mind that Lawler did hit Sal.----This could be a landmark case in this crazy world of professional wrestling. A business that is suppose to be worked to the mark so he believes it is real, but when it is real then it is considered assault. Jerry Lawler, who is the
color commentator for the number one cable wrestling show in the country [and sometimes #1 cable show in the country], will face criminal charges in the state of Mississippi.----The court date is scheduled for August 1, 2007, but only if papers are served to Lawler before that date. Lawler is scheduled to wrestle on the July 20, 2007 Sam’s Town Memphis Wrestling show and Mississippi authorities are expected to serve Lawler the papers that night.----I will keep everyone updated as soon as I hear anything else.

The Wrestleline Report-Wednesday

Sherri Moment(s) of the day-from Dan Coffman-managing randy savage, managing HBK, how she acted at the Hall of Fame. Please remember that this is Sherri Martel week on The Indy Wrestleline and, so feel free to email me or leave your favorite Sherri memories on The Indy Wrestleline and I will share them in reports throughout the week.

Bald Rob-you rock, thanks for the comments!

Eric Bischoff did an interview recently online and during the interview he did shoot on TNA, basically saying that while he would like to see them succeed, their problem is that they don't get it. He basically was saying that they've been getting 1.0 cable ratings for the past couple years and will continue to do so until they get it. I would like to add that while I do agree with Bischoff, I don't think people give Jeff Jarrett enough credit. He's built up a major company in just the span of five or six years. Yes, he's had some spectacular financial backing, but I think that he's done pretty well with TNA thus far, as has Dixie Carter, considering she probably had little knowledge of the business coming into TNA ownership, and has done well adjusting and learning.

Speaking of TNA, Ron Killings and Konnan both quit the company Monday at the Impact tapings, stating that, apparently, they'll be working full time for AAA in Mexico. There had been rumors of Killings going to AAA for quite some time now, and Konnan has been the booker there for a while.

Vanilla Ice, Johnny Fairplay, Josh Haynes of Ultimate Fighter fame, as well as numerous football players and other celebrities were in attendance for the TNA Slammiversary ppv.

Raw on Monday got a 4.2 cable rating off hours of a 4.1 and a 4.2

WWE has been #1 recently on the Yahoo Buzz Index

ECW on Sci Fi Results:

Chris Benoit d. Elijah Burke in a qualifier to an ECW Title match at Vengeance

The Boogeyman d. Sean Alexander

Kevin Thorn d. Tommy Dreamer

Johnny Nitro d. Nunzio

CM Punk d. Marcus Cor Von in an ECW Title match qualifier, so it will be Punk v. Benoit for the ECW Title at Vengeance-exactly what I was hoping it would be.

The Wrestleline Report-Tuesday

I'd like to announce that all week will be Sherri Martel week here on The Indy Wrestleline and I feel that the death of Mr. McMahon angle is overshadowing the real death of a true legend to this business, and I'd like everybody to leave some of their favorite Sherri memories, and I will share them in the reports.

TNA will be announcing a new concept match for the Victory Road ppv this coming Thursday on Impact!

Smackdown on Friday got a 2.4 rating

There will be two qualifying matches tonight on ECW to decide who will go on to face one another for the vacant ECW Championship at Vengeance, when CM Punk takes on Marcus Cor Von, and Chris Benoit takes on Elijah Burke.

WWE has bought out Jim Cornette's share of Ohio Valley Wrestling, with Danny Davis owning the other 50%.

Three matches have been added to the Vengeance ppv this coming Sunday-IC Champ Santino Marella v. Umaga, World Tag Champs Cade & Murdoch v. The Hardys and Melina v. Candice Michelle.

Sherri Martel Week!

First off, for those who either didn't catch on, or aren't aware, the reason I did the whole "I killed Mr. McMahon" thing was to show just how stupid this entire angle is altogether. Yes, I caught a lot of criticism for it, and that was the point-everytime I was criticized, it was pointed out how stupid this entire angle is, so for that, I say thank you for helping me prove a point! Now, I feel as though a valuable person to this business has been overshadowed by the death of Mr. McMahon storyline, and I feel that one way we can help make that right is to make this Sherri Martel week on the website and hotline. A lot of you are going to ask "why don't you do this for every legend that passes on"? Not to take anything away from any of them, but there are only a few true women legends of wrestling, and she was one of them, plus, like I stated, I feel like her death is being overshadowed by a fake death. I'd like everybody to just leave some of their favorite Sherri memories, and if you would like to email them to me, or leave them on my option of the hotline, I'll share them in reports this week. Thanks once again to everybody who supports the website and hotline, and remember first and foremost, support local independent wrestling!

Why I killed Mr. McMahon...

I can't tell you the number of calls I've received asking me why I did what I did. Little children walking up to me on the streets saying "why Mr. Simmons, why oh why did you blow up that nice Mr. McMahon"? Elderly women spitting on me as I walk the mean streets of Danville. I am not proud of what I did, but I do have my reasons.
For those who don't know, I cut hair for a living. It's something that I DID love with a passion. This all goes back to that fateful night at Wrestlemania 23-the hair v. hair match. I watched in horror as Donald Trump and Bobby Lashley incorrectly went about shaving Mr. McMahon's head. It appeared as though none of the tools were sanitized, and the technique was all wrong. I wiped the tears from my eyes as I watched Mr. McMahon suffer, what HAD to be the worst haircut of his life.

The days went by, and soon they turned into weeks, then months that I had to stare at that hideous abomination. It made no sense for a man of that calibur to have to be reduced to coming out in dew rags, and when I saw how bad it looked with the dew rag off, I just lost it. I knew I had to take Mr. McMahon out of his misery.
I beginned plotting, wondering just when would be the most opportune time, and when I saw that Mr. McMahon was in emotional distress and not in the right frame of mind, I knew then that I had to act quickly before he came to his senses.
As I stated before, I feel terrible for having taken another life, especially, of all people, the life of Mr. McMahon, but if there's one thing that drives me more crazy than anything-it's a bad haircut. I guess it's a good thing I've had my licensed revoked as a result of all of this, because I couldn't cut another head of hair if I wanted to. The thought literally just makes me sick to my stomach.

Pretty stupid right? Exactly! This is an example of the crap that we must put up with week in and out, and I say it's about time for a change!

This morning on The Indy Wrestleline, owner Adam Simmons made a bold confession-that HE is the one that killed WWE Chairman, Mr. McMahon! Chris Benoit & CM Punk d. Elijah Burke & Marcus Cor Von

The Vince McMahon-exploding limo footage from Monday night was shown

Chris Benoit v. CM Punk v. Elijah Burke v. Marcus Cor Von for the ECW Title was announced for Vengeance

RAW scored a 3.8 cable rating-I'm surprised it wasn't up at least a little from last week!

Apparently the exploding limo stunt was shot over the weekend with a professional stunt and pyrotechnic group, with the pre-taped segments being combined with a live feed to give us what we saw on tv.

Vince McMahon has topped the Yahoo Buzz Index for the first time ever with 2977%

The Wrestleline Report-Tuesday

Here's the rundown of the draft last night

Going to Smackdown:
Great Khali
Torrie Wilson
Ric Flair
Chris Masters

Going to RAW:
Bobby Lashley
Ken Kennedy
King Booker

Going to ECW:
Chris Benoit

It's been announced that Chris Benoit's final appearance on Smackdown will be this coming Friday in the main event, in which he and Batista will take on MVP and Edge.

NFL player Joe Anoai was recently cut by the Minnesota Vikings, and if he isn't picked up by another team, he's expected to be offered a WWE developmental contract.

Booker T's recent PWA show in TX drew about 550 fans, and featured CM Punk and Too Cold Scorpio

At this point, the top WWE stars are not scheduled to be a part of the Jackass angle.

Apparently the two on the creative team most opposed to Paul Heyman returning were Stephanie McMahon and Michael Hayes.

The Wrestleline Report-Monday

Don't forget that tonight on Raw, it's the WWE Draft! The show will have a special start time of 8 pm, with World Champion Edge v. WWE Champion John Cena.

Apparently Victoria and Mickie James had a brief mention in Playboy recently when a reader sent a letter asking why the two had yet to pose for the magazine. It should be noted that Victoria just about bent over backwards a year or two ago trying to get into the magazine.

As thing stand, the current 'Jackass' angle will set up one to three matches at the 8/13 Madison Square Garden Raw.

The current idea is to have the 'Jackass' crew make several television appearances, ultimately leading to the Summerslam PPV.

Shane McMahon spearheaded the deal to ensure the 'Jackass' involvement. Vince McMahon was undecided about the idea inititally, but later gave the proverbial green light.

USA's Bonnie Hammer had previously suggested WWE seek celebrity talent to help improve Raw's sluggish ratings, pointing out that Donald Trump and Kevin Federline's angles were successful.

Stacy Keibler is featured on a show called “Secrets Of The Hollywood Body” which will be airing repeats on TV Guide Channel on a regular basis for the next week or so.

The final numbers for The Condemned at theaters were $7,371,706 in North America, and $123,512 overseas.

Mick Foley talks about the two WWE writers that were fired in his new book. Neither of them had a wrestling background, and one of them didn't even know that RAW and Smackdown had different rosters.

Ken Kennedy recently went on a tirade against internet reporters, stating that most of them have no knowledge of the business. You know, he ought to be damn grateful that anybody wants to talk about his ass in the first place, and secondly, that is waaaaay to generalized saying that MOST reporters have no knowledge of the business. Just because somebody doesn't know how to take a bump doesn't give them less of a part of the wrestling business, jerk. WWE basically has 24/7 advertising of their product-for free-thanks to the NUMEROUS wrestling websites out there, but then again, that goes to show WWE's true appreciation for their fans.

The Wrestleline Report-Sunday

Despite internet reports that had TNA drawing 7,000 fans for the 6/3 house show at the Jose Miguel Agrelot Coliseum (which holds 18,000) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, TNA only drew about 2,500 fans at the event, with around 2,000 paid. WWE has routinely sold out the building in the past.

With Scott Steiner out of the picture for the 6/17 Slammiversay PPV, TNA is considering replacing Scott with another wrestler to team up with his brother Rick against Team 3D.

Booker Dutch Mantel was adamant that people remain with Scott Steiner for his surgery in Puerto Rico. Jeremy Borash, Abyss, and Jeff Jarrett remained in Puerto Rico to be with Steiner during the surgery.

Referee Slick Johnson has quit TNA, as he has accepted a full-time job outside of the wrestling business.

Earl Hebner recently missed a tv taping due to his wife suffering a stroke.

Right now it looks like Summerslam should feature Triple H v. Randy Orton, and possibly Vince McMahon v. Rey Mysterio.

As things stand, Steve O, Pontius, Wee-Man, Bam Margera, Ryan Dunn and Preston Lacey have agreed to be apart of the WWE vs. Jackass angle. Johnny Knoxville has yet to agree to be involved, but sides continue to talk.

Former WWE Champion Sid Vicious, 46, is currently in pretty good shape, and in good hopes of having another WWE run.

It's being reported that WWE has fired writers Ric Garni and George Wellingford from the creative team. On the flip side, Dave Kapoor (The Great Khali's manager) has earned a performer's contract to go along with his creative team contract. Kapoor joins Chris DeJosephs (Big Dick Johnson), as guys that have both contracts as performers and writers.

The Wrestleline Report-Saturday

For Those who have asked, Scott Steiner is recovering from trachea surgery in Puerto Rico and TNA is working on getting him back to the states.

TNA Impact on Thursday night scored a 1.0 cable rating

Booker T's PWA out of Texas is advertising that TNA Tag Champs Team 3D will be on their next event. I found this kind of funny since Vince made such a big deal out of Jerry Lawler being involved with the Memphis event that Hogan was on-even though that was mostly due to the heat between McMahon and Hogan, but I also heard of a recent incident where TNA talent was backstage at a WWE show and was helping theirselves to catering, to which John Laurinitis got onto them stating that WWE would never send WWE talent to TNA shows and do that same thing. I dunno, just kinda weird how they're interacting-for me anyways.

Smackdown last night scored a 2.6 fast rating-the final rating should be out sometime next week.

Smackdown diva Kristal will be on the cover of the September issue of African Americans on Wheels

Insanity Pro Wrestling will have a show debuting on Comcast Channel 72 starting on July 4th -3:30PM, with replays on July 5th - 7:30 PM, July 6th- 7:30 PM, and July 7th- 3:30PM. This show will air monthly, the same week of the upcoming IPW show. The show will be hosted by IPW ring announcer Bill Bowman and a local stand up comic.

The Wrestleline Report-Thursday

ECW on Tuesday night got a 1.43 rating

UWF has added Sabu to their Hardcore War 2 event this Friday in Philadelphia at the New Alahambra Arena (ECW Arena), appropriately enough, this will be Sabu's first show since his ECW release.

Steve-O from JACKASS, Jesse Ventura, Gene Okerlund, Bobby Heenan and Mick Foley have all been announced as being a part of the WWE draft this coming Monday on RAW.

WWE is currently working on a Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat dvd. You can vote for Steamboat, among other legends as part of the Best Intercontinental Champion Series of polls on!

Current AWA promoter Dale Gagne, who is being sued by WWE for trademark infringement, claims that WWE has been aware of him using the AWA name since 1996, and even sent him talent for AWA shows in 1999.

Jackie Gayda was released by TNA during the first week of May. Apparently she was phoned the decision, and then sent a fax with the confirmation.

Apparently TNA will be dressing Sonjay Dutt up like Ghandi as part of his new gimmick. Dutt supposedly told TNA management that they should have him drive a taxi while they were at it.

Voodoo Kin Mafia v. Damaja & Basham has been added to the Slammiversary ppv.

TNA Impact Spoilers:

(1) Robert Roode w/Ms. Brooks d. Jerry Lynn

(2) Gail Kim d. Ms. Brooks

(3) KOTM Qualifier: Chris Harris wrestled James Storm to a double count out so neither man qualifies.

RAW on Monday got a 3.8 cable rating

Brian Knobs & Jerry Sags of The Nasty Boys, baseball player Wade Boggs and Brian Blair were all backstage at RAW on Monday night.

It's estimated that Gregory Helms will be out of action until April of next year.

WWE is hoping that Shawn Michaels can return by late November-just in time for Survivor Series.

In a recent interview, Don Frye stated that he'd like to face Kurt Angle

There are some that support the talk of X Division Tag Titles in TNA, but Jeff Jarrett is not big on the idea

Ron Killings has been medically cleared to wrestle-AAA is still interested in booking him.

Midwest Insider Tuesday Report

Kurt Angle is scheduled to meet with Bodog officials in the coming days. If Angle is to do MMA, he will need to take a sabbatical from TNA to train. At this point, TNA is booking as if Angle isn't finishing up.

Despite needing a kidney transplant, Konnan plans to wrestle full-time in Mexico by year's end.

TNA creative doesn't see Hernandez and Homicide (LAX) as top talent, which explains why their push has cooled off.

1PW in England has Abyss and Homicide booked in August.

While I'm sure they would never in a million years openly admit it, UFC has been influencing WWE as of late. As part of trying to make their overall product more sports oriented, they've told referees to act more like UFC ref's, and be more technical basically and call the matches as if they were shoots.

There's talk of Paul Heyman coming back to WWE possibly in a heel manager capacity. Vince McMahon is said to be luke warm to the idea, while basically all the other head creative writers are heavily against it.
