Smackdown Spoilers

Dark Match:

Vladimir Kozlov defeated Funaki with a version of Abyss' shock treatment. Kozlov came out and cut a promo using broken English with a Russian accent which got big heat. Jingoism still has power as a booking tactic apparently. Kozlov is very green and they had a sloppy match. Another stiff of a heel is not what Smackdown needs

Smackdown:

- Teddy Long is in the ring to start and announces that Vickie is not there this evening as she is recovering from the 619 at the Royal Rumble. Vince McMahon has put him in charge and because of that he is going to make a match that will determine the #1 contender for the World Title and Wrestlemania.

- He announces at No Way Out they will have an Elimination Chamber match to determine the challenger. That's right- 2 Elimination Chamber matches at No Way Out. The Smackdown one will be Batista vs The Great Khali vs Finlay vs MVP vs Big Daddy V vs The Undertaker. What program got the better end of the talent rosters for that match?

- He then says the winner of that match will face the winner of another match he is making for No Way Out. Edge will defend the title against Rey Mysterio in a rematch of the Rumble encounter. That brings out Edge who says he will face anyone but Rey. Teddy tells him I feel bad for what happened to Vickie but don't take it personally- it's just business playa.

1.) Ric Flair defeated MVP by DQ in a Royal Rumble rematch.

-Flair got a standing ovation as he came out as it seemed like people knew this was the last time we'd see him. Decent back and forth match that went about 10 minutes. Flair seems to be getting his legs under him stamina wise so he was able to keep up in the match. The end came when Flair went to lock on the Figure Four but MVP reversed it. Flair got to the ropes but MVP wouldn't break and got disqualified. After the match MVP wrapped Flair's leg around the ringpost a few times and then trapped the leg between the post and steps and kicked it.

- In the back the trainers looked at Flair and said he has damaged ligaments.

- Chuck Palumbo came out and said he wanted to talk about what happened last week. He said him and Michelle were going good until Jamie Noble got involved. So it felt good to beat up Jamie, but what happened to Michelle was a total accident. He then said he got fined 10,000 dollars for hitting a referee that was , "too stupid to get out of the way while I was bringing the crazy." He then said he wanted to apologize to Michelle. She came out and said she wouldn't accept and then slapped him. Palumbo said Noble would pay for that slap. Chuck was awkward on the mic in the segment

2.) CM Punk & Rey Mysterio defeated Chavo Guerrero and Edge with a combination 619/ GTS on Chavo.

- Very good tag match that was about 15 minutes long. Had two heat segments. First on Punk, then on Rey.The crowd was into this the whole time and the closing minutes of the match have some good sequences. The end saw Chavo and Edge collide and both fall into position for the 619. Edge bailed and Chavo took it, then Rey dove onto Edge at ringside. Punk hit the GTS and pinned Chavo.

- Vince McMahon stopped Finlay and Hornswoggle going to the ring and said he was disappointed in Finlay for throwing away a chance at the championship. Finlay said he is more concerned with loyalty and friendship.

3.) Finlay & Hornswoggle beat Deuce & Domino with the Tadpole splash.

- Total squash as the Greasers have hit rock bottom- unless they find a way to book them against Cole and Coach next week. Hornswoggle tripped up Cherry on the outside and Finlay clotheslined Deuce into the crowd. He then hit Domino with the Celtic Cross and Hornswoggle hit the Tadpole for the win. Hornswoggle is way over with the little kids, and seeing as that is (isn't?) their audience it's good for them.

- Diva Search winner Eve Torres was out for her first night on Smackdown to introduce Batista. Batista came out and cut a short, but effective promo saying he will walk to Vegas, walk into the Elimination Chamber, win, and then walk to Wrestlemania to take back his belt. So he should be in great shape cardiovascular wise at the big show. As he left the ring he got into an argument with two guys in the front row who were flipping him off the whole time.

- Jesse was in the back and said they found a doctor who could meld Festus two personalities into one. Next week Jesse and the new Festus will return to climb up the tag team ranks.

4.) Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder beat Shannon Moore & Jimmy Wang Yang with an inverted Impaler.

- Hawkins and Ryder messed up their entrance twice and then one of them messed up the first move of the match. Not a good night for the former Major Brothers. The crowd didn't seem to care too much about this match as there were scattered, "Boring" chants. There was nothing wrong with the match but it was wholly unremarkable. Hawkins and Ryder have potential but they seem over anxious in teh ring at times and it throws their timing off.

5.) Kane & the Undertaker defeated Mark Henry & Big Daddy V when Taker locked Henry in his version of a triangle choke.

- Really sloppy match at times but the crowd heat was incredible for it as people were chanting for Undertaker all night. Kane got the heat segment as V and Henry hit some slow motion offense on him. Kane eventually got the hot tag and Taker came in and took the bad guys out. Taker and Kane then hit V with a double chokeslam before Taker finished off Henry. The show ends with Taker and Kane celebrating their victory and the fans in Reading going home happy.

WWE in HD

WWE® Goes HD

January 14, 2008--World Wrestling Entertainment® fans will soon be getting their weekly doses of high-energy entertainment delivered in stunning high definition. Beginning the week of January 21, WWE’s Monday Night RAW® and A.M. RAW on USA, ECW®: Extreme Championship Wrestling™ on SCI FI Channel, and Friday Night SmackDown® on The CW will all be delivered in HD.

WWE will also broadcast its pay-per-views in HD, starting with Royal Rumble on January 27.

“The move to high-definition programming is another step in WWE’s ongoing mission to provide fans with the most engaging, exciting product possible, and our programs look spectacular in HD,” said Mike Grossman, Senior Vice President, Television Operations. “This upgrade will be the first of many technological advances for our brand in 2008.”

WWE’s switch to high-def was made possible by a series of upgrades to the company’s television studios in Stamford, Conn. The $20 million HD renovations included refitting of equipment to broadcast WWE programming and global pay-per-view programming in high definition on cable and satellite systems around the world. The WWE also worked with NEP Supershooters to build two new state-of-the-art production trucks, and will lease a custom transmission truck designed for HD transmission.

WWE built new sets for RAW and SmackDown for their HD debuts.

WWE programming reaches nearly 16 million people per week in the U.S. “Monday Night RAW” on USA Network is the most watched regularly scheduled program on ad-supported cable television in the U.S. “Friday Night SmackDown” on CW is the No. 1 program on broadcast TV Friday nights among males 18-24.

Pacman at it Again!

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A woman is seeking an arrest warrant against suspended Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones, claiming he punched her at an Atlanta strip club.

Fulton County Magistrate Court officials told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Wanda S. Jackson asked for the warrant after a Jan. 3 altercation at the Body Tap Strip Club.

Jackson, an attorney, says in her filing that she was in the club's office when an angry Jones accused managers of stealing his money and bracelet.

"I was sitting in the office and he lunged at me numerous times in an effort to do grave bodily harm," Jackson wrote in the warrant application filed Jan. 7. "Veronica Jones, an owner, went into the hall to deal with a member of his entourage. I followed to gawk. He was in the hall, surprisingly reached over or around a security guard and sucker punched me in my left eye."

Jackson told police the next day she was at the club because she was handling a divorce case that involved Adam Jones. No one could be reached Tuesday afternoon at the club's listed phone number.

"Mr. Jones, according to Ms. Jackson, was at the Body Tap Club and she and Mr. Jones got into an argument at the club and Mr. Jones struck Ms. Jackson in the left eye, causing a bruise around her left eye," according to the police report.

Jackson did not immediately return a phone message requesting comment. Jones' attorney Manny Arora said no warrant has been issued against his client.

Norris Arnold, a court support manager for Fulton County, said a magistrate judge will review Jackson's application on Feb. 8 to determine whether the warrant will be filed.

Last month, Jones pleaded no contest to a disorderly conduct charge related to a strip club shooting in Las Vegas that left one man paralyzed.

Clark County District Attorney David Roger said the new accusations could affect his case in Nevada. With his plea, Jones agreed to a year probation, random drug testing, community service and anger management classes.

"We have negotiated with Mr. Jones in exchange for his assistance in an attempted murder case. This doesn't help his case if he is found guilty," Roger told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Jones has been arrested six times since being drafted sixth overall in 2005, including two arrests in Georgia in 2006 that the Titans did not learn about until 2007. Jones was suspended for the 2007 season by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in April.

"As we have said throughout his suspension, we will not comment on Adam Jones until he is reinstated by the commissioner," the Titans said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

Jones was allowed to go to the Titans' headquarters once their season ended with an AFC wild-card loss in San Diego on Jan. 6. But the NFL plans to review his status following the Pro Bowl.

Former WWE Champ Returning?

It's being heavily rumored that Big Show Paul Wight has decided to come back to WWE. He's stated that he just needed to take some time off to heal his injuries. He was supposed to get into boxing, via Hogan, but with all of Hogan's personal issues that are on his plate, that's obviously not a top priority.

TNA News & Notes

It's being reported that at the last set of Impact television tapings, the TNA wrestlers had to have physicals and get blood tests done on them. At the next set of tapings, they will be drug tested. The drug testing will be elaborate and not limited to steroids. From what is known at this time, the testing will include drug enhancement substances, marijuana and all other recreational drugs.

- 3,321 tickets remain for the 1/25 house show in Troy, Ohio.

- Shark Boy's current gimmick is being done as a rib on the fact that much of the WWE roster keeps getting injured. This was Dutch Mantell's idea.

- The best of 2007 DVD will be released on 4/8.

The Wrestleline Report-Sunday

Sorry-not a whole lot of news today, but here's what I could scrape up!

Smackdown on Friday got a 2.9 fast national rating

Former WWE tag team Gymini (The Shane Twins) did try outs for the new 'Gladiators,' but were never called back.

If you've caught TMZ tv lately, you've seen that not only is Brooke Hogan trying to get on the next season of Dancing with the Stars, but Chyna was also spotted trying to rub elbows with the right producer-only to be thrown off the premises!

Jamie Noble & Finlay have both qualified for the Royal Rumble matchup; Undertaker & Batista have also been announced for the Rumble matchup-without having to qualify.

John Cena will begin filming a straight-to-dvd release called "12 rounds", at the end of this month in New Orleans. Basically the plot sounds a lot like The Marine, except in this one he plays a detective trying to save his kidnapped girlfriend.

TNA house show results from Dallas, TX:

- The Motor City Machineguns - Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin over Kaz and Elix Skipper

- Awesome Kong defeated Jackie Moore

- Black Machismo defeated Johnny Devine

- Christian Cage defeated Samoa Joe

- Eric Young defeated James Storm

- LAX downded Lance Hoyt and Jimmy Rave

- Booker T beat Robert Roode

TNA House Show Footage

TNA has posted some footage from their house show in Dallas, TX on Friday night-apparently a sold out crowd at the House of Blues! Here's the link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcAl9M0akQk

Two More Qualify For Rumble

Jamie Noble and Finlay have qualified for the Royal Rumble during yesterday's Friday Night Smackdown! While Noble had to beat Chuck Palumbo to get a spot, Mr McMahon gave Finlay the chance to protect Hornswoggle. Undertaker and Batista have also been announced for the 30 man over the top rope match without having to qualify. Qualifying matches will continue during live events and on television leading up to the pay-per-view.

Cena Movie News

There has been a lot of talk lately about the new WWE Films movie which should be start filming at the end of this month in New Orleans, LA. Titled '12 Rounds', the movie features John Cena in the leading role and is
directed by Renny Harlin, the same man who directed movies such as Deep Blue Sea, Cliffhanger and Die Hard 2. The plot is about a detective - played by Cena - whose girlfriend is kidnapped by a crime lord and forces him to go to twelve rounds around the streets of New Orleans to get her back. Yeah, in The Marine, Cena's girlfriend also gets kidnapped! Midnight Sun Pictures and The Mark Gordon Company along with WWE Films are the production companies
and FOX Atomic will be distributing. While Cena's first film was the most successful for WWE, this movie will be going straight to DVD when it is released. With John Cena out for a few more months with his arm injury it made perfect sense to film this movie while he's not having a wrestling schedule at the same time.

The Wrestleline Report-Saturday

Just wanted to let you guys know that there's a few different polls going on over on TheMidwestInsider.com that you need to get over and vote for; Best Fed in Indiana for 2007, and the FIRST Hall of Fame nominees for The Midwest Insider Hall of Fame! You can vote for your favorite singles, tag team, and manager/woman/announcer nominee, and the winners will be the first ever inductees into The Midwest Insider Hall of Fame! This will be an annual thing that you, the fans, vote on, so be sure to let your voices be heard, and vote today!

Oh, and by the way-after much outcry, a "certain person" has been banned from The Midwest Insider. If you go to the message forum on the site, I'm sure you'll figure it out!

It's been confirmed on TNAwrestling.com, Chris Harris is no longer a part of TNA. It's been heavily rumored the past few days that his agent has negotiated a deal with him and WWE, so we can pretty much guess Harris' next move.

On www.play.com, they have a release date for TNA impact on the wii, xbox 360, PS3 and PS2 for 6/27.

Impact on Thursday scored a 1.1 cable rating, which is pretty much what they've been doing as of late.

Kurt Angle will be heading back to New Japan next month in an IWGP Title unification match against Shinsuke Nakamura in Tokyo. Tomko & his partner, Giant Bernard will also be defending their tag titles on the show.

On the list of 2007's worst films, The Condemned came in at no. 6. Here's the review:

"This may have been the last gasp for WWE Films. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin may be able to cut a wrestling promo, but he’s not cut out for a career in action films. What’s worse, this surprisingly brutal R-rated film was marketed toward teens and other younger fans of World Wrestling Entertainment. No wonder people hate Vince McMahon."

Speaking of "the worst", The Sacramento Bee ranked Smackdown as the 7th worst TV show on 2007. They wrote, "Doesn't matter that it's fake, let's look at the messages: use steroids,
cheat, taunt, get revenge and violence solves everything. Then there's the massive misogynist steak. This isn't a TV show, its a civil rights violation."

Believe it or not, Randy Orton has the rep backstage of being someone that doesn't take crap from Triple H and Shawn Michaels. Apparently Orton has that attitude HBK used to have in that he think he's untouchable.

Teddy Long is the Smackdown general manager on the road since Vickie Guerrero only works the television tapings and PPVs.

There is talk of Carlito being moved over to the Smackdown brand. I believe his brother Eddie is finally moving to Florida Championship Wrestling from Puerto Rico. Eddie Colon signed a WWE developmental deal months ago.

WWE Magazines will be launching WWE Kids, geared towards 6-14 year olds this April. A subscription card can be found in the February 2008 issue of WWE magazine with Jeff Hardy on the cover.

As rumored, WWE Magazines will be launching WWE Kids, geared towards 6-14 year olds this April. A subscription card can be found in the February 2008 issue of WWE magazine with Jeff Hardy on the cover.

Memphis Promoter Files Suit Against WWE

BILL DRIES
The Daily News

It's the back story that counts in professional wrestling. The matches and interviews advance story lines and rivalries that lead to more matches with more hype and thus more fans in the seats and watching on pay-per-view television.

As a result, it's sometimes hard to determine what is real and what is being done to advance the story line.

That was the case in April when Memphis wrestling legend Jerry "The King" Lawler was a no-show for a FedExForum press conference to announce a match between him and Hulk Hogan.

Hogan fumed on cue several times over for the cameras about Lawler trying to dodge the showdown in the ring.

Lawler sent word that his contract as an announcer for World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. prevented him from going through with the match.

Paul Wight, a mammoth-sized wrestler with the moniker Big Show, was drafted as Lawler's replacement. Wight renounced what he termed his WWE "slave name" and was billed as Paul "Great" Wight.

It appears, however, the contract dispute was real. The promoter, Corey Maclin, recently filed a claim for damages in Shelby County Circuit Court against the WWE and Vince McMahon, its president and CEO, according to The Daily News Online, www.memphisdailynews.com. Maclin claims the WWE violated section two of the federal Sherman Anti-Trust Act.

IFL Promoter Speaks on Kurt Angle

Kurt Otto, of the IFL, was interviewed on Inside MMA on 12/28. Otto said that certain athletes are making a mockery of the MMA world, and then brought up Kurt Angle. Otto said they had negotiated with Angle, and had an agreement to do a fight. Otto said he believed Angle got cold feet when he was flown in for an event in Hollywood, FL, and sat ringside watching the fights. Angle has also negotiated with Bodog and UFC in the past, in addition to the IFL.
