WWE News & Notes

WWE is planning on doing a Ric Flair retirement ceremony tonight on RAW. It's being rumored that JJ Dillon, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard & Barry Windham are all backstage, and there's rumors of a Four Horsemen reunion tonight.

Surprisingly, Flair was offered the main event at WM, but turned it down, as he stated that nothing is more important than the Championships, and insisted that his match with Michaels did not belong in the main event. Apparently creative pitched the idea of the final segment being his robe and boots in the spotlight.

Once it was well known TNA was planning to flying an airplane over the Citrus Bowl, TNA decided against doing it; although DirecTV did have a blimp fly over , as did a strip club with a 'Wooo!' banner.

WWE was kind enough to open the doors two hours early last night to allow fans to find their seats before the ppv started.

Apparently CM Punk winning the MITB Ladder Match last night was somewhat of a last minute decision, as Jeff Hardy was originally slated to win the matchup. The general feeling backstage is that Punk is not ready. Apparently the past few weeks, there has been talk of moving Punk to RAW.

For those curious, Big Daddy V is currently out with pneumonia.

As of last week, WWE has plans to move Umaga to the SmackDown.

Big Show was told that he was staying heel after WrestleMania to work a title program with Undertaker on SmackDown. Another storyline idea being tossed around is a Big Show vs. Great Khali program, although that probably won't be taking place until later in the year.

WWE is pushing their advertising offices in New York City to work towards getting more higher profile companies to advertise with the company, especially major auto companies. It's been a major headache for the office because management has pressure on them to get Fortune 500 companies to sign on and that's a hard sell due to the stigma of professional wrestling and wrestling fans.

There's been a new page added to TheMidwestInsider.com, which will be featuring mostly wrestling babe photos-ie-WWE Divas, TNA Knockouts, etc. There are also some in ring action photos that had been taken by former correspondent, Marcus A. Fine, from a handful of Indiana independent shows. Be sure to check it out under the link 'Wrestling Babes & In Ring Photos'!

I also wanted to let you guys know that TheMidwestInsider.com will most likely be changing names soon, but not to worry, as that's about the only thing that will be changing on the site! You will also still be able to access the site via TheMidwestInsider.com domain, it's just the actual name of the site, and the name we advertise will be different. Stay tuned for details!

Apparently there was a fireworks & cable accident that occurred at last night's ppv. According to the Orlando Fire Dept., at least 40 people were hurt when fireworks and cables landed on the packed crowd. WWE sent out a statement regarding the incident, saying that they are investigating the situation, and are taking 'solace in the fact that reported injuries were minor'-yeah, I bet their legal department's taking great solace in that fact.

On a positive note, WWE set some records last night-as they usually do with every Wrestlemania-with a live gate of more than $5.85 million in ticket sales-this was the highest grossing event, not only in WWE history, but in Citrus Bowl history as well. An attendance record of 74,635 was also set for The Citrus Bowl, and it's being reported that the event pumped more than $30 million into the local economy.

For those asking about the 'lights out' incident that occurred during the Bunny Mania match, the general thought is that TNA was flying their 'watch TNA Impact' plane over the arena at that time, and the lights were shut off, with only lighting over the ring, so as to snuff out the visibility of TNA's banner.

Ric Flair may be done as an in ring performer, but he actually has quite a bit of time left on his WWE contract-so look for possibly a manager role, GM, or announcing role for The Nature Boy.

One of Floyd Mayweather, Jr.'s handlers last night at the ppv was WWE developmental talent, Charles 'The Hammer' Evans.

Jakks Pacific announced today that they will now be producing a line of action figures, and related products for American Gladiators, which is due out in spring of 2009.

As previously reported, all WWE talent has been told to show up for RAW tonight, which hints at a possible draft-so tune in tonight to see what happens, and as always, the Wrestlemania fallout is not to be missed!

RAW Preview

At WrestleMania XXIV, Randy Orton shocked the world by pinning John Cena and retaining his coveted WWE Championship at the Citrus Bowl. Now that Orton has proven his dominance against not one, but two of Raw’s most powerful and skilled Superstars, who could possibly step forth to oppose him? And how will Triple H and Cena react after having been foiled in their attempts to recapture the WWE Championship? We'll find out as Raw rolls across town to Orlando's Amway Arena.

Unfortunately, Orton’s win wasn’t the only disappointment for WWE fans last night. After a legendary 36-year career, the "Nature Boy" Ric Flair was defeated by Shawn Michaels, and given a standing ovation by the 74,365 at the Citrus Bowl. How will The Showstopper deal with the emotions involved in ending the career of his friend and 16-time World Champion? And while Flair is forbidden to compete in the ring again, will this be the last we see of the Dirtiest Player in the Game?

Fans got to witness two experienced brawlers do what they do best on Sunday when JBL narrowly defeated Finlay in a Belfast Brawl. Though Finlay almost defeated the self-proclaimed "Wrestling God," even an assist from his recently recovered son wasn’t enough to put a stop to the rampaging self-made millionaire. With this win behind him, will JBL continue to run roughshod over the Raw roster? Or will the newly reunited team of Finlay and Hornswoggle rebound to take him down?

And with Beth Phoenix & Melina topping Maria & Ashley in their BunnyMania Lumberjack Match at WrestleMania, who will rise up from the Divas division to challenge the powerful Glamazon and make a move on her cherished title?

To find out the answers to these questions and more, tune into Monday Night Raw at 9/8 CT on USA Network.

The Wrestleline Report-Sunday

Be sure to check out the new boards on TheMidwestInsider.com message forum-we have boards for different independent wrestling scenes across the country, one for wrestlers looking for bookings/promoters looking to book, one for old school wrestling discussion, and more!

If you caught the Hall of Fame ceremony last night, leave your thoughts. I didn't catch it myself, but I've read some transcripts of the show, and it sounds like it was a very emotional night. As expected, The Rock got a big response from the fans, and lots of 'one more match' chants, and it sounds as though The Rock was very moved from the response he got. Also, as expected, a very emotional night for 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair, as he was driven to tears at parts of his speeches. It made me emotional just reading the transcripts, and hearing Flair reflect back, and bring up some old memories.

Also if you caught the HOF last night, you may have noticed that Pat Patterson inducted Mae Young instead of Stephanie McMahon, which must've been a last min. change.

At the WM press conference yesterday, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. said he expects WM to easily draw more than 1.4 million ppv buys.

Matt Hardy was teasing yesterday that he could be wrestling tonight.

TNA has a truck that they're driving around the Citrus Bowl area, telling people to watch TNA Impact on Thursday nights. TNA is also supposed to have a plane flying over the Citrus Bowl during WM with a 'Watch TNA Impact' banner.

GENICKBRUCH.com has an interview up with former WCW & WWE star Bill DeMott, aka Hugh Morrus.

Apparently all of the ECW, Smackdown and RAW performers have been told to be at RAW on Monday night.

An interesting tidbit I heard about Gary Hart, apparently there was an idea for Hart to have a heel stable with Umaga as his top guy, the group being called 'Black Friday Management'-apparently Vince McMahon was never warm to the idea though.

Wrestlemania Lineup & Predictions:

World Heavyweight Championship
Edge v. Undertaker-Undertaker

WWE Championship
HHH v. Orton v. Cena-Either HHH or Orton

ECW Championship
Chavo v. battle royal winner-I'm guessing Elijah Burke will win the battle royal, and then Chavo will retain the ECW Title.

Big Show v. Mayweather (no holds barred)-Mayweather

Flair v. HBK-Flair

MITB: Kennedy, Benjamin, Y2J, MVP, Carlito, Punk, Morrison-Either
Punk or MVP

JBL v. Finlay (Belfast Brawl)-JBL

RAW v. Smackdown:
Umaga v. Batista-Batista

Bunny Mania Matchup
Ashley & Maria v. Beth & Melina (lumberjack match) w/ Snoop
Dogg as master of ceremonies-Ashley & Maria

Guest host for WM ppv-Kim Kardashian

The Wrestleline Report-Saturday

It's confirmed that Wrestlemania 25 will take place at the Reliant Stadium, in Houston TX. The stadium holds 70,000 for a football game, and could hold about 10,000plus for the WM event.

Speaking of Wrestlemania, it's being reported that Wrestlemania 24 is the highest grossing event ever for The Citrus Bowl.

Apparently WWE is not letting Undertaker do media interviews. A Houston reporter, who attended high school with 'Taker, requested an interview with him, and was told that WWE Superstars have to be interviewed as their on-screen personas, and The Undertaker's character does not permit that.

An official website for the TNA Impact video game has been launched at TNAGame.com, which has screen shots, videos from the game, and more.

Well, just in case you haven't heard by now, Robbie McCallister of The Highlanders, was sent home by WWE for the whole TNA Impact fiasco. Big surprise there.

The first ever live edition of TNA Impact on Thursday scored a 1.0 cable rating-not that bad, but definitely not what the company was hoping for.

Smackdown last night scored a 2.4 fast national rating.

There's an article about JBL's wife, Meredith Whitney, on money.cnn.com

The rules have been announced for the Mayweather v. Big Show matchup-basically anything goes-and there must be a winner by either knockout, pin, or submission.

Don't forget that tonight is the WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony! It airs at 11 pm on USA Network, and there should be a replay after AM RAW. Here's the list of inductees:

The Briso Brothers-Jack & Gerald Brisco. The Brisco Bros. won numerous tag titles, and of course Jack Brisco is a former NWA World Champion.

Mae Young-only the third female ever inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, behind Fabulous Moolah, and Sherri Martel.

Eddie Graham-the former wrestler and famed promoter of Championship Wrestling from Florida-will be inducted by Dusty Rhodes.

Rocky Johnson & 'High Chief' Peter Maivia-The Rock will be inducting his father, and grandfather.

Gordon Solie-Considered by most to be the best wrestling announcer in history, will be inducted by JR

Ric Flair-The best.

Live Impact Far From Homerun

TNA was far from the homerun they were hoping to hit last night-they scored a 1.0, with an average audience of 1.4 million viewers. Ouch.

The Wrestleline Report-Friday

If you caught the live edition of TNA Impact last night, leave your thoughts! I'm hearing that TNA turned away between 2-3000 people for the show last night, and apparently Chavo Guerrero, Shannon Moore and The Highlanders were backstage. Seems like there was some drama that came out of the show, as current WWE wrestler, Robbie McAllister of the tag team The Highlanders was not only in attendance at the show, but was shown on camera. I also heard that there was talk backstage of WWE prohibiting TNA wrestlers from interacting with WWE talent at the hotels down in Florida.

Spike TV has moved the Impact replay to midnight this Saturday, so it won't be going head to head with the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, although the second hour will be going head to head with AM RAW.

Tammy Sytch, aka Sunny's profile has been added to the WWE.com alumni section.

John Cena, Sr. did an interview recently, shooting down any rumors that he was heading to TNA. This was the first I'd heard of any talk of him going to TNA, honestly.

Former World Heavyweight Champ Sid Vicious held a press coference to announce his return to wrestling-in the NWA. Sid will be at the NWA Showcase tapings on April 18 in Lincoln, RI at the Twin Rivers casino

Sabu showed up for the Mar. 16 AAA show, replacing Ron Killings, and apparently was in pretty bad shape. Sabu is currently recovering from a broken leg and vertebrae damage, and couldn't do much in the ring. Killings was recently told by WWE he could no longer work AAA.

I don't usually mention MMA news on here, but I heard that former UFC Heavyweight Champ Tim Sylvia may be leaving the UFC. Sylvia has expressed his discontent with Brock Lesnar getting paid more than him at a recent ppv, and has stated that he has a 'major announcement concerning his career'. Syliva is supposed to appear today on 'Inside the MMA' on HD Net.

There's an online video game I thought I'd pass along-it's simply called 'The Wrestling Game', and seems to be pretty fun and addictive. Basically you get a wrestler, get them trained, start off on the indy scene, then work your way up to the big time-learning new holds, making new fans, and of course, more money. You can find it online at www.thewrestlinggame.com.

Smackdown Spoilers:

Dark Match: Ron Killings def. Kenny Dykstra-Killings apparently got a pretty good response from the fans in attendance.

Smackdown Tapings:

1) Mark Henry def. Kane, Chuck Palumbo, and The Great Khali in a 4 man battle royal. Chavo does guest commentary.

Backstage promo with Teddy Long and some divas.

2) CM Punk def. John Morrison

3) Jesse, Festus, and Kofi Kingston def. Lance Cade, Trevor Murdoch, and the Miz

4) Batista def. Snitsky

5) Michelle McCool and Cherry def. Victoria and Maryse w/ Eve as special referee in the ‘Diva Super Soaker/Water Balloon Tag Match’

6) Chris Jericho def. MVP via DQ

7) Funeral Ceremony hosted by Edge, commemorating an 'end to Undertaker's WM streak'. Not that anybody will have seen this coming, but Undertaker pops out from a casket, and attacks Edge.

8) Dark Match: Ric Flair, Batista, and the Undertaker def. Edge, the Big Show, and MVP

Jerry Wilson stepped into The Hotseat tonight !

That's right wrestling fans the owner of the top drawing indy promotion in the state of Indiana, Hoosier Pro Wrestling, Mr Jerry Wilson joined Rodney Rush in The Hotseat tonight. Jerry spoke a little about himself, and alot about HPW. Give the Hotline a call and listen to this very good interview.

The Wrestleline Report-Thursday

If you caught the WWE edition of Larry King Live last night, let me know your thoughts! I saw it, and while it's always entertaining to see Vince interviewed by the mainstream media, it was pretty obvious that this was more about promoting Wrestlemania than anything. There was some interesting conversation out of it though!

Well I usually give TNA Impact Spoilers today, but this will be the first ever live edition of Impact tonight on Spike! Let's see if they can get past the coveted 1.3 rating.

TNA has announced Kevin Nash as their 'celebrity spokesperson' for their upcoming trading card set, to be released by Houston-based Tristar Productions.

Kurt Angle is now claiming he has a summer date set up against former UFC champion Randy Couture for the Pro Submission League. Couture, however, is still under contract to UFC.

LAX is planned to get a renewed push.

Matt Morgan will be filming 'American Gladiators' from 4/8 to 5/8, with the season itself starting 5/12.

Joel Anderson of "Survivor" is coming in to TNA, but hasn't been given a debut date. He will be working with Team 3-D when he does start.

Pacman Jones spent Tuesday and Wednesday in Dallas, TX, apparently furthering the talks of a trade between the Cowboys and the Titans. Although Jones has yet to be reinstated by the NFL, it's being rumored that a deal could be worked out before the NFL draft, or around that time.

Former World Heavyweight Champion Sid Vicious is once again talking about returning to the ring. He spoke on his injury, stating that he was 'blessed' with the injury, as it gave him time to heal up and get back to 100%.

The MVP character a real person? Apparently the character is partially based off of a real person-none other than NBA player, Stephon Marbury. When MVP used to be a bouncer at a popular night club, he'd almost had a major incident with Marbury, and carried that with him to help make the MVP character.

Well apparently Eddie & Doug Gilbert aren't the only grapplers in the family! Mama Peggy Gilbert, 65, was arrested last friday on assault charges, after having a dispute with her grandaughter. Gilbert was released without bond, pending her court appearance.

Smackdown Spoilers

Dark Match: Ron Killings def. Kenny Dykstra

Killings received a nice reaction when you consider how long he’s been out of the WWE and instead stuck in TNA purgatory and also AAA. There were plenty of responses to his WHAT’S UP yells. He pins Dykstra with an axe kick.

Smackdown Tapings:

1) Mark Henry def. Kane, Chuck Palumbo, and The Great Khali in a 4 man battle royal.

Chavo Guerrero is introduced at the start of the show and does guest commentary. Match itself is rather short. Kane is eliminated first and followed by Chuck Palumbo (both by Khali, I believe.) Henry and Khali trade chops and punches for a bit, then Henry lifts up Khali for a body slam and throws him over the top rope. Henry receives a face pop for his disposing of Khali.

Chavo sneaks into the ring after the match and takes out Henry at the knees. He works on him for a bit before Henry comes back and gives Chavo a bodyslam and splash.

Teddy Long is backstage with Eve, Cherry, and Michelle McCool. He announces that Eve has been eliminated from the Diva competition. Maryse and Victoria show up and start arguing with everyone. Teddy says the only way to settle this is with a ‘Diva Super Soaker/Water Balloon Tag Match’ or whatever the hell he called it. Yikes.

Promos are shown throughout the night for Edge’s funeral ceremony to commemorate the ending of Undertaker’s Wrestlemania streak.

2) CM Punk def. John Morrison

This was a solid match that was given about 10 minutes and was similar to their summer matches for the ECW title. The highlight was Punk giving Morrison a frakensteiner off the top rope. Finish comes when Punk reversed Morrison’s corkscrew neckbreaker finish into the GTS.

3) Jesse, Festus, and Kofi Kingston def. Lance Cade, Trevor Murdoch, and the Miz

The heels work over Jesse until he makes the hot tag. Everybody is on the outside brawling when Kofi hits a spinning roundhouse kick on (I think) the Miz for the pin.

4) Batista def. Snitsky

Spear. Spinebuster. Batista Bomb. Pin. Match lasted 60 seconds tops and was a total squash. Batista grabs a chair after the match and gives Snitsky another powerbomb on the chair.

5) Michelle McCool and Cherry def. Victoria and Maryse w/ Eve as special referee in the ‘Diva Super Soaker/Water Balloon Tag Match’

This was basically soft-core porn. Buckets of water and water balloons are in each corner with super soaker guns. Victoria had the humorous moment when she came out with goggles, a snorkel, and those toddler arm floaters. They throw balloons around for a bit and end up hitting Coach, Michael Cole, and even a few made it into the front rows. McCool hits some type of suplex on Victoria for the pin. Maryse looked like a girl who’s been hysterically crying because all of her eyeliner was streaking down her face. Eve poured a bucket of water over her after the match to top it all off. They went with this instead of getting Flair on TV one last time? Please.

6) Chris Jericho def. MVP via DQ

There’s a bit of a delay while the ring crew switches out the mats. MVP comes out while the ring is still being switched and he gets on the mic and works the crowd for a few minutes. He also walks over to the announce table and mouths off and berates Michael Cole. I doubt that will air, however.

This was another enjoyable match. Jericho seems to be finally finding his stride again and MVP’s potential is through the roof. Jericho reverses a Playmaker attempt into the Walls of Jericho and MVP is able to escape and scurry out the ring. He grabs the belts and runs into the ring to get DQ’ed. Jericho ducks the hit and gives MVP the Codebreaker on the US title.

7) Funeral Ceremony

The ring is set up with full funeral arrangement garb and resembles a wake. The black flowers and wreaths are present, along with a picture of the Undertaker and a podium for Edge to speak. A casket is in the middle of the ring. Edge and his entire posse are present in formal attire. Edge gives a eulogy on the Undertaker, covers his accomplishments, and lists his Wrestlemania opponents. He comments on how that time has now come to an end.

Vickie interrupts and says she has a gift for Edge. It’s a video in the style of a movie preview promoting Edge as a superhero for conquering the Undertaker. When Edge starts a final prayer, the lights go dark and Undertaker’s music and video plays. The casket opens and Taker ambushes Edge. He assaults him in the corner until Edge is able to escape. The tapings end with Taker posing in the middle of the ring.

Note: Someone screwed up during this segment and really exposed the product. When the lights dropped and the music/video started, it seemed to go on longer that what you’d normally expect. One of the producers who had been outside on the corner ring steps for the entire segment then literally jumped onto the apron and banged on the back of the casket in plain sight. He hopped back down and the casket opened. I was just a few feet away from this since I was sitting 3rd row floor on the TV side. All of us in the area looked at each other literally dumbfounded since it was painfully obvious. I understand this type of segment isn’t necessarily ‘believable’ to begin with and it’s nothing that will show on TV, but it kills any type of suspension of disbelief that the crowd needs to have to be fully invested with the product. I can’t possibly believe that’s how it was designed in the first place. It definitely looked amateurish.

8) Dark Match: Ric Flair, Batista, and the Undertaker def. Edge, the Big Show, and MVP

The crew clears the ring again and everyone comes out for the dark match. This match was fun and resembled what you’d see at a house show. The heels stalled and argued with each other throughout. Flair and MVP started the match off, and the heels worked over Undertaker for most of the match. Finish comes when all six men are fighting and Taker simultaneously hits a tombstone on Edge while Flair gets MVP to submit to the Figure Four.

Post match, the faces are in the ring celebrating for several minutes. Batista grabs the mic and thanks Flair for being a friend and an integral part of his professional and personal life. Flair speaks and thanks Fayetteville for supporting him throughout his career. He says that if this Sunday is truly the end of the line, he’s glad to have performed here one last time. Taker doesn’t speak but embraces Flair and motions to him. All three walk out together to end the show.

The Wrestleline Report-Wednesday

TNA has announced a pay per view distributorship deal with Joe Hand Promotions, which from the sounds of it, means that TNA ppv's will begin airing in commercial locations, such as bars, night clubs, etc.

RAW on Monday averaged a 3.42 cable rating, with just over 5 million viewers-that's about the average, but I'm sure WWE management was hoping for a little higher of a number going into Wrestlemania.

WWE has announced that the ECW battle royal to decide who faces Chavo for the ECW Title on the Wrestlemania ppv will be aired on the WWE.com 'Free View' section on Sunday, at about 6:30pm.

An interesting tidbit I came across-apparently Tommy Dreamer's twins played the role of a baby in one of the episodes of The Sopranos. Tommy's hands were shown picking the baby up, but you never actually saw Tommy.

WWE's Hall of Fame ceremony will air on USA Network this Saturday night at 11pm, with a replay at 2am.

Amy "Lita" Dumas was contacted about doing an interview on the New Hardys DVD, but she wasn't interested.

A press release was sent out yesterday announcing the 'WWE Kids' magazine, which will hit stores nationwide on April 15, and will run bi-monthly.

ECW on Sci Fi Results

ECW on Sci-Fi: TV Report
3/25/08
Fayetteville, NC
Crown Coliseum

-The opening promo kicks things off. Fireworks shoot off into the ceiling of the Crown Coliseum and Joey Styles welcomes us to the show. They hype the next match as maybe the biggest tag team match we’ve ever seen.

-Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly come out together first. These introductions might take up the first quarter of the show.

-Kofi Kingston makes his way out next.

-Kane makes his way out. All the other cobatants are in the ring already after all. At the end of the match I’ll do my best to list all the names involved.

12 ON 12 TAG MATCH

-Rhodes and Kendrick start things off. Noble gets the tag in from Rhodes and goes to work on Kendrick. Palumbo now in and he goes right to work on Noble. He drops an elbow, but Noble moves and tags in Yang. Palumbo takes him right down. He charges at Noble in the corner, but he gets a boot up then hits a dropkick. Palumbo spills to the outside and Yang hits a plancha on him. Shannon Moore hits a summersault plancha onto Palumbo. Now Trevor Murdoch dives onto all of them from the top. They head to break 3:00 in.

-Back from the break Snitsky and Dreamer are in the ring. Now the action breaks down and everyone is in the ring. It goes outside quickly. Holly hits an alabama slam on Burke on the inside. Miz comes in and works on Holly. Festus inside hits a thesz press on Miz. Khali comes in and takes out Festus. Kane knocks Khali out. Matt Striker gets a chokeslam. Snitsky comes back in and lays out Kane with a clothesline. Dreamer gets back in and Henry puts him in a bear hug. Snitsky hits Dreamer with a big boot and gets the pin.

***Massive heel team wins in 9:30. (*1/2).

Elijah Burke.

-Ok, I did not see BDV, but he had been advertised for the match. Those are the guys I saw though. So, I’m confused. We got a situation people. I think they only put out 23 people and they advertised 24.

-In the back Dreamer and Delaney are approached by Chavo Guerrero Jr. Dreamer wants a match with Chavo tonight. Chavo says it’d have to be non-title. Dreamer doesn’t care, because of what beating the champion means. Chavo is hesitant. Dreamer puts over Delaney saying he has guts, but Chavo doesn’t. The match is on.

-Carlito makes his way to the ring.

-Benjamin makes his way to the ring. It’s a MITB preview.

CARLITO VS. SHELTON BENJAMIN

-They both point at the ceiling and Carlito slaps Benjamin. Now Carlito puts the boots to him and pounds on him in the corner. Monkey Flip by Carlito, but Shelton lands on his feet. He hits some punches and kicks now. Side headlock by Benjamin and then a shoulder block. Dropkick by Carlito. He sends Shelton up over the top, but he holds the ropes and skins the cat. Shelton gets hung up on the ropes and ends up being sent outside.

-Carlito hits a DDT on Benjamin on the apron. Back inside he goes for a pin and gets 2. Reverse chinlock by Carlito and he takes it to the mat with a headlock. They finally get out of the hold and Carlito hits a springboard back elbow for 2. Carlito drives his shoulder into Shelton’s gut in the corner. Benjamin comes back with a series of hard right hands. Carlito comes back with a suplex. Another chinlock by Carlito. Benjamin picks up out of it and hits an electric chair. The ref starts a count as they both lay on the floor. WCW wrestler found dead in Buckhead home
Father says Tatum died of apparent accidental drug overdose

Former WCW wrestler Chase Tatum was found dead late Sunday afternoon of an apparent accidental drug overdose, his father said.

Tatum, 34, was recovering from back surgery 10 days earlier to repair a degenerative disc. His father, Roy Tatum of Kennesaw, said his son had been battling a painkiller dependence for years but had made plans to enter a rehabilitation facility in Miami.

"He was in the process of getting his life back together," the elder Tatum said Monday evening. "He was confident he was going to turn things around, to live a normal life again without those painkillers."

Chase Tatum's body was discovered by a friend at his Buckhead home around 4 p.m. Sunday. He was unresponsive and could not be revived by emergency personnel. A toxicology report has been ordered by the Fulton County Medical Examiner, which will take anywhere from six to eight weeks, said Laura Salm, an investigator with the coroner's office.

"He laid down, went to sleep and woke up in heaven," his father said.

Chase Tatum was 19 years old when he won the Mr. Georgia bodybuilding competition. He was always a big kid, his father said, An online movie resume described him as 6-feet, 3-inches tall and 265 pounds.

He began a career as a personal trainer, which he continued doing until his death.

Tatum's wrestling career was unplanned and short-lived.

One of his clients was a WCW personality who encouraged him to audition. Tatum was accepted on his first try, debuting in 1999. He quickly gained notice; an online fan club dubbed him "WCW's coolest young jobber."

His dad, however, advised his son against becoming a pro wrestler.

"How long can you last in that field?" Roy Tatum said. "They go in with their eyes closed, think they'll make some quick money and then get out."

Tatum retired after about two-and-a-half years. The brief wrestling stint left him battling severe back problems but without health insurance to pay for the surgery.

The painkillers kept him going, his father said, and despite his dependence, Tatum found success as an actor. He landed a substantial role in the low-budget comedy, "Who's Your Caddy?" in 2007 alongside costar rapper Big Boi of Outkast. He also worked as a road manager and personal assistant with Outkast.

"He loved working with them," said his father, also an actor. "He got to see Paris, Germany and Japan."

He said his son had just landed a major role in a movie that was to be filmed in New York. In his spare time, Chase Tatum enjoyed spending time with his young nephew, Jake, the son of Chase's younger brother Colin.

"He was at his brother's house more than his own," Roy Tatum said.

Chase Tatum's funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Paran Church of God in Atlanta.

ECW on Sci Fi Preview

In the final ECW before WrestleMania XXIV, Superstars will surely be looking to secure an advantage for their contests at The Granddaddy of Them All.

CM Punk is coming into WrestleMania week strong after earning a Six-Man Tag Team Match victory with partners Jesse & Festus. The Straightedge Superstar has money on his mind; with a win in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, Punk will have the opportunity to challenge again for a much-coveted championship. Shelton Benjamin, who was on the losing side of last week’s contest, will look to turn the tables and generate some momentum for Money in the Bank. His partner in the Six-Man Tag Team Match, John Morrison, will be looking to do the same. The Shaman of Sexy qualified for the contest when he beat fellow WWE Tag Team Champion, The Miz, on SmackDown.

ECW Champion Chavo Guerrero is also in good spirits after defeating Colin Delaney and denying him an ECW contract last Tuesday. Guerrero is ready for the brand-wide 24-Man Battle Royal to determine who will face him for his title later that night. His destruction of Delaney was a warning message that rang loud and clear across the Land of the Extreme. Who else will be added to the over-the-top rope battle for an ECW Title Match on The Grandest Stage of Them All?

What will happen just five days before the biggest night of the year? Find out on ECW on Sci Fi, Tuesday at 10/9 CT.

The Wrestleline Report-Tuesday

TNA sent out a mobile alert on Monday, stating that the possible locations for the Bound for Glory ppv are New York City, Chicago and Toronto. If I were TNA, I would seriously consider NYC or Toronto more than Chicago, as they've drawn record crowds with their house shows in both Canada and NY.

MMA fighter, Frank Trigg, will be on TNA Impact this Thursday to break down the World Title match between Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe for the Lockdown ppv-I'm guessing they're doing this since the match is supposed to be 'mma style'.

Speaking of TNA-former TNA talent Ron 'The Truth' Killings d. Paul London in a match before RAW on Monday.

WWE will be having an event at Times Square in New York City this coming Wednesday to promote WrestleMania XXIV. The Big Show, WBC champion Floyd Mayweather Jr, Triple H, Randy Orton, Edge, Maria, Candice Michelle, Shane McMahon and Vince McMahon will be attending. The event is open to the public and will be held at the Hard Rock Cafe at Noon.

WWE Music: Volume 8 will be released tomorrow in stores nationwide. The album contains 13 tracks in total and features the newest theme songs of Jeff Hardy, Kofi Kingston, Beth Phoenix, Mark Henry, Hawkins & Ryder, Mr McMahon, ECW, Jesse & Festus, Candice Michelle, John Morrison, Shelton Benjamin, Mr Kennedy and Chris Jericho.

Candice Michelle had her surgery yesterday and it appears as though Ashley Massaro will now be taking her place at Wrestlemania.

Just in case you missed it on RAW, Nature Boy Ric Flair received the key to the city of Columbia, SC!

The family of John Graziano-the injured passenger in Nick Hogan's car accident-filed a lawsuit against Hulk, Linda, Nick and Daniel Jacobs on Monday. Jacobs was the driver of the Dodge Viper that Nick Hogan was racing, which resulted in the accident.

RAW Preview

Triple H clearly relished his night in charge last week.

After punishing John Cena and Randy Orton by pitting them against the entire Raw roster last week, The Game added injury to insult by laying out both of his WrestleMania foes with Pedigrees. With less than two weeks before The Granddaddy of Them All, what will the three warriors poised to compete for the WWE Championship do this week to get a leg up on their competition at the main event?

In other Raw action, The World’s Largest Athlete sent his WrestleMania opponent, Floyd “Money” Mayweather, another message by manhandling eight-time Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho just a week after tossing The World’s Greatest Fighter from the ring. The intimidation game has escalated dangerously in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania. Just how far are the WBC welterweight champion and the former WWE Champion willing to go to gain an edge?

Also, JBL continued to provoke his WrestleMania opponent, Finlay, when he pummeled the Irishman’s fellow countryman, Colin Delaney. Having already stooped to new lows, what will the self-proclaimed “wrestling god” do next? And just what steps will Finlay take to exact his revenge?

To find out the answers to these questions and more, tune into Monday Night Raw at 9/8 CT on USA Network.

The Wrestleline Report-Saturday

We are currently resolving the issue with option 2 of the hotline, and should have the situation worked out within the next day or so. I apologize for the inconvenience!

TNA Impact on Thursday scored a 1.0 cable rating-should be interesting to see how they do next week on their live edition-especially since-I believe-it will be going head to head with the WWE edition of Larry King Live.

It's being reported that the Dallas Cowboys have started preliminary talks with the Tennessee Titans about a trade for former TNA Tag Champ-Pacman Jones.

Independent lady wrestler April Hunter is currently featured in a two page spread in Fighting Spirit Magazine.

TNA's been served with a lawsuit by Konnan for the treatment he received following his departure from TNA. I'd say TNA definitely has this coming to them, and Konnan deserves some kind of compensation for the hell he's been through with his health issues and the crappy way TNA handled his situation.

TNA officials love the popularity of Curry Man, everyone in TNA knew of the success that the character has had internationally but there were obvious questions of how it would be received in TNA. The original idea was to let Daniels bring the Curry Man gimmick to the company to play off of the "fired" storyline and bring him back later on down the road. However, given the recent success of the angle, it is likely that Daniels will work as Curry Man for the foreseeable future. While Christopher Daniels has always been respected for his ring work, this latest push is because of the reception that the Curry Man gimmick has received.

Former WWE diva Lita has stated on her bands MySpace page that contrary to whats being reported on numerous wrestling sites, she was not hospitalized over the weekend, what did happen was she lost her voice and had to cancel a show over the weekend, she reports she is fine now.

The Georgia Senate will have to vote today on a bill for the regulation of professional wrestling, if the Senate does not vote on the bill today the bill will be considered dead. SB 413 (the bill) would put professional wrestling under the purview of the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission, commonly called the Boxing Commission. As a result, pro wrestlers would be subject to random drug testing and physical examinations before matches.

Tickets are said to be selling well for TNA's first tour of the U.K.

Apparently when WWE airs their tv in India, they don't talk about Great Khali's losses, he's always the babyface, and his opponent is always the heel, as most people in India still believe that wrestling is real, and Khali is somewhat of a national hero.

It's being reported that Bruno Sammartino's son, David, is looking to get back into the wrestling business. He's said to have kept himself in good shape, but has just lost his contacts in the business.

Kim Kardashian will be the 'guest hostess' for Wrestlemania.

On the season finale of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, Chyna-who had been questioning why she was even in the program to begin with-finally admitted that she might be an addict. She turned down a three month sober living program that would've been paid for. Former UFC Champion Ricco Rodriquez also turned down the three month program.

The Cruiserweight Title has been removed from the WWE.com Superstar page-another step toward dropping the title apparently.

Former Survivor cast member Johnny Fairplay will be backstage at the TNA Destination X ppv tonight.

The Wrestleline Report-Saturday

Well apparently Shawn Michaels' former tag partner-Marty Jannetty-was in attendance at the EWF arena on Friday night-if you made it up to the show in Marion, let me know your thoughts! Be sure to check back on option no. 2, with Marcus A. Fine for all of the latest Indiana independent wrestling news as well!

It's being reported that Rey Mysterio, Jr. will be returning to WWE earlier than expected under a new company policy that gives out false anticipated return dates for wrestlers, in order for their return to be more of a suprise-much like Cena's return.

Smackdown's overnight rating was a 2.8-up from last week's 2.6-as usual, the final rating will be out sometime this coming week.

TNA Impact on Thursday night scored a 1.2 cable rating-and if TNA can hold this for the next week or so, they may actually have a chance of jumping to that 1.3 when they go live on the 27th!

TNA president/majority owner Dixie Carter recently met with Congress to discuss TNA's newly implemented drug testing policy-unlike Vince McMahon. TNA wrestlers have been informed of their initial results, and the generalized results will be made available to members of Congress.

TNA has confirmed the release of Judas Mesias via a recent mobile alert. I find this completely stupid, as TNA spent all of that time building him up to be Abyss' brother, so much time on that storyline, just to throw it out the window. Chalk that up as one more idiotic creative move in TNA.

Speaking of TNA, I have the Destination X lineup for tomorrow night on PPV:

Samoa Joe, Cage & Nash v. The Angle Alliance

Rhino v. Storm (Elevation X)

Roode v. Booker T

Lethal v. Williams

Shark Boy & Curry Man vs. Team 3D

Awesome Kong v. Kim v. ODB

Kaz & Young vs. Black Reign & Rellik

Lax v. Machineguns v. Rock n' Rave Infection

I just wanted to let you guys know that starting soon, we will be incorporating national independent wrestling news, as well as the midwest wrestling news that we already cover. No, a lot of you may not be able to make it to these shows, but we hope to broaden our base, as well as keep you more informed of what's going on around the country. Stay tuned for details!

USA Network has announced that the three hour RAW has been moved from April 7th to April 21st

More on the Brooke Hogan spinoff on VH1; there will be 10 half-hour episodes that basically chronicle Brooke leaving home and getting out on her own. Aside from watching the occasional dance practices, sun bathing, and aerobics classes-sounds like a snore off.

Signs of OVW's growth on it's own-OVW will begin podcasting their weekly tv shows, starting today, over on www.clickcaster.com/ovwrestling. The episodes are only $2, and will be updated weekly.

Billy Batson and the Legend of Shazam starring The Rock will hit theatres on 8/17/09.

Trish Stratus made a surprising return to the ring recently in Iceland. She lost to Icelandic Women’s Champion Svana Hronn. The match was filmed for Trish's upcoming Canadian reality show that features her touring the world.

The reason why Ric Flair hasn't announced his retirement at Wrestlemania is because he was hoping to wrestle his last big match as a heel. The WWE thought it would be impossible for the fans to boo him, so that idea was nixed and Michaels will try to be the heel.

Interesting tidbit-Vince McMahon is obsessed with the 1950's movie "Shane". For some reason he believes that HE is the Shane character from that movie. He's named his son Shane after that movie and he even named his production company "Shane Productions" when he made No Holds Barred. He even has tried to buy the rights to this movie.

Jamie Noble has become very close with Michaels and HHH. Noble is the person that actually taught Michaels his new modified figure-foursubmission leglock.

The Rush Report- Thursday 3/6/2008

TNA officials still continue to push the idea of moving Impact to Monday nights to Spike TV for a head to head showdown against WWE Raw, currently in the their first hour alone Impact competes with CSI on CBS and Lost on ABC, so TNA feels that there is no way to become a ratings leader on Thursday nights running against those highly rated programs. Spike TV would rather move the program to Wednesday where it would have less competition, as they feel a move to Mondays would not benefit them. TNA's ratings for the live edition of Imapct on March 27th will be crucial in their arguement to move to Mondays and to have more live editions.

According to CNN.com Vince McMahon, John Cena, Chris Jericho, and Floyd "Money" Mayweather will be appearing on Larry King Live on Thursady March 13th.

Celebrity gossip site MediaTakeOut.com reports 50 Cent won't be alone when he takes Floyd "Money" Mayweather to the ring at Mania, other members of the group G Unit will be there as well.

In other Mayweather related news, some WWE wrestlers think Mayweather's paycheck for WM24 is too high and are worried that if the PPV doesn't do enough buys Mayweather's pay may cut into theirs. Note, WrestleMania is normally the highest payday for most WWE wrestlers for the entire year.

The WWE film that will start production after Cena's "12 Rounds" and Triple H's "Journey of Death" will be called as of right now "A Chance for Both Barrels". No WWE Superstar to star in the film or a director is attached to the film yet.

Brock Lesnar's next confirmed fight after UFC 85 against "The Insane 1" will be at UFC 87 in Lesnar's hometown of Minneapolis will be against Marc Coleman.

TNA spoilers for tonight's edition of Impact:

(1) Kevin Nash d. AJ Styles in a street fight.
(2) Curry Man won a 16 man battle royal.
- Shark Boy announced that he and Curry Man will face Team 3D in a Fish Market Street Fight at Destination X. If Team 3D don't make weight or lose the match they are gone from TNA.
(3) Tomko d. Samoa Joe in a first blood match.
(4) Rhino d. Judas Mesias.
(5) Awesome Kong d. Salinas in a non title match.
(6) Christian Cage d. Kurt Angle in a non title Six Sides of Steel match.
- The Angle Alliance attacked Christian and beat him down until Samoa Joe and Kevin Nash made the save.

The dark match prior to the ECW/SD tapings was Kofi Kingston vs Kevin Thorn. Kingston won this match.

TNA has added a couple of shows to their live events calander on April 4th they will be in Spencer, Iowa and on April 5th their stopping in Lincoln, Nebraska.

According to an article on MTV.com Snoop won't be the only rapper at WM24, their reporting that 5o Cent will accompany Floyd "Money" Mayweather to the ring for his match with The Big Show. I believe Mayweather uses one of 50's songs as his entrance music.

Kenny Dykstra returned to action from his stint on the injuried list last night at the FCW show in a losing effort in a match against The Stampede Kid TJ Wilson.

Luthor Reigns, Daniel Puder (both former WWE stars), and Matt Morgan (currently with TNA and formely with the WWE) are still in contention for spots as gladiators on the second season of the hit NBC show American Gladiators. Female MMA fighter Erin Toughill is also still in the running for a spot. Another former WWE star has already been cut from the auditions Chris Masters. Look for some of the 1st season's gladiators to be off the show next season which starts airing in July.

It looks like Triple H's modern-day western movie just got itself a title the project is going to be called Journey of Death and will start production when 12 Rounds starring John Cena wraps up. The film is scheduled to be released in 2009.
